i have been recently using designer whey protein shakes for the past year, and they only worked ok. They did not help me put on weight which i really need to do so i recently just bought a jug of muscle milk powder shake mix.

has anyone ever used muscle milk?
was it helpful?
can it be harmful(especially for high school students)?
is it safe and legal for high school athletes?

i made one shake so far and it tasted great. i'm just really concerned and OCD about the stuff i put into my body so i basically wanted to know if there are any harmful or potentialy unhealthy chemicals in there

Don't use muscle milk, it's a waste of money for a protein shake. Buy ON 100% whey or Dymatize 100% whey, good pricing, great taste too. Protein is perfectly safe, I take about 180g of protein in a day and about 100 or so through shakes, so about 2-3 shakes a day. The real way to gain way is to eat more than you burn, 3500-4000 calories + 1g of protein per lb of body weight. PM me if you need to know anything else, I know quite a bit.

180g of protein a day!!!! Dear lord, daily values are printed at about 50g a day. And ON has 24g of whey per serving, so 2-3 shakes is only about 48-72g of protein. Where do you get the rest?

Each shake I make has 46g of protein x 3 = 138g + food intake, steak, chicken, etc all adds up to 180 or more.

muscle milk is really good to drink before you go to bed. i personally used it and gained 10 lbs in about 2 months. then again i also doubled my overall caloric intake and started working out regularly.

i also was taking whey protein with my muscle milk though. try taking both and it will work out well. muscle milk has lots of casein proteins, so it takes longer to digest. use it before bed with milk if you are trying to put on some weight.

I just use badger milk lol i love that movie.

Ive never personaly used muscle milk but i know people who have and they havent had any results. Mostly what i use is just the ON 100% whey protein or you could just buy which ever 100% whey protein of your choice.

Some people need to head over to www.t-nation.com and read up on creatine. There are no harmful side effects to creatine when used properly, and it is also naturally produced by your body. It is probably one of the best supplements around, and best of all it is way cheaper than any of the designer supplements.

I was initially sceptical regarding creatine as well...a few years back. I have since read up on it and taken it and I found it worked really well. Plus studies suggest it is good for brain function as well.

you have to be careful when u take it and how much you take.
it can be very harmful to the livers if you are taking more than one creatine shake a-day for a while because your liver has to work extremely hard to process it according to my fitness specialist

Muscle Milk is a great supliment to take to get stronger and gain weight. It is not a normal whey protien shake which is fine as long as you are eating enough protien throughout the day (chicken, steak, tuna). Muscle Milk actualy helps your body naturaly create more creatine so that you are not putting any foriegn substaince in your body. To clear up all of the myths about creatine, it is a natural substance that your body produces and is perfectly safe. You just have to make sure that you are drinking about 8-10 cups of water a day and you shouldn't take more than 5g of it a day. You also do not need to do cycles of creatine that is another myth that is completely false. Creatine is not a steroid! To get back to the original question about Muscle Milk, I think that you will find the gains that you are looking for while taking it especialy during the season. I personaly like to use it during the season in order to have a good protien shake and naturaly create more creatine in my body so that I don't have to take a sepperate creatine shake that will possibly dehydrate me when I need to stay hydrated the most.

Effy is right about everything. Cycling creatine isn't needed if you don't take excessive amounts of it, for example, "loading it". The best time to take it is right after your workout, with your post-workout shake. And also, muscle milk does not contain creatine, it contains something that it said to naturally boost it. It does taste good, but is expensive and contains a lot of saturated fat. Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey is a great deal at $30 for 5 pounds, which should last about a month. Also, Biotest's Surge is great stuff, it's one of the best PWO drinks available.

how does it mess you up in the first place? oh it makes you train harder, gives you more energy, causes your muscle to produce more atp which in turn makes you faster, and stronger.

Creatine is naturaly produced in your body and is made up of arginine, glycine and methionine which are all amino-acids which makes creatine an amino-acid.

Mmmmmmmm....I'm not trying to 1up so don't take it that way.....

Creatine is made up of parts of arg, gly, and met, it is an acid, if you look the chemical structure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Creatine2.png) it is clearly not an amino acid.

You could say that creatine is made up of parts of amino acids (as well as other chemicals) but this does not make it an amino acid. This would make it a protein. But since it has other chemicals that are not amino acids in its sequence, it is not a protein either.
Cited (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatine)

It does need amino acids in order to be synthesized though, valid point.

There are no other chemicals that help make up creatine just parts of arginine, glycine and methionine which makes it an amino acid. Creatine is one of 28 amino acids and is considered a non essential one. You can check the list out here http://www.vitamins-supplements.org/amino-acids/

Creatine is a natural derivate of an amino acid
...essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine.....nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine...
Creatine is synthesized in the liver by methylation of guanidoacetate(not an amino acid)

i am a very hard gainer. i can eat as much as i possibly can, workout 6 times a week and not manage to put on a pound. i tried muscle milk, and while it has an inredible taste, it does not work very well. The best weight gainer IN MY OPINION is Mass Tech by muscle tech. it is not just protein. it is also calories and carbs and tons of other things that will help you gain weight

the reason your not gaining weight is cause your overworking yourself. if your hardgaining only work out 2-3 times a week! thats your problem.

I am a walking example of what muscle milk can do for you.

Before I go on, I am 5'11, 210 muscle now

June: went down and out because of surgery; weight before surgery 200
July: Allowed to return, weight, 215, gained fat while out
August: Lost fat, weighed 195, lean, began to eat more protein, and use muscle milk
Skip to October: Worked out 4 days a week, put on 10 pounds of muscle, weighed 205
March: Tryouts, weighed in at 215, working out 5 days a week from mid January to February 28, tryouts were March 1st.

I used the pre made drink, worked great for me. As you can see, I put on 20 lbs of muscle. Great stuff. But make sure you eat right, or it will make you fat.

BTW I used the 39 g of protein shake. I dont know the exact size but thats the amount of protein in it. Just the right amount that the body can break down and use, and, unlike the drinks and powders give you like 50+. YOUR BODY CAN ONLY USE SO MUCH BEFORE IT PUSHES IT OUT. No one seems to get that. THe more you put in doesnt mean the faster or bigger you will get. That was a little rant. Sorry.

the reason your not gaining weight is cause your overworking yourself. if your hardgaining only work out 2-3 times a week! thats your problem.

You got the first part kind of right about overworking your body but that only applys to overworking specific muscle groups. You can work out 6 days a week as long as your not working any muscle group more than 2 days a week. Your muscles need time to rebuild themselves. If you want to gain muscle weight, working out 2-3 times a week will not help you. 2-3 times a week is a workout plan to maintain the muscle you already have but will not help in gaining any more. A good amount to workout is about 4-5 times a week and a 6th can be added as long as it is extreamly light.

P.S. Just want to say this again THERE IS NO CREATINE IN MUSCLE MILK

I disagree a 3 day split can do wonders if done correctly. Circuit training, or a split. 4-5 is good for a more advanced lifter, but can also lead to over training if not done correctly. You need to realize that differnt methods work for differnt people. Everyones bodies are unique. I guarantee what I do when lifting will only get ME the gains I want.

muscle milk works does it work better than any other protien? maybe but i have no evidence that it does, YOU HAVE TO LIFT to get bigger and stronger protien is just a building block. muscle milk is by far THE BEST tasting protien on the market. it also is a little more money than some others. but once you try muscle milk you will not go anywhere else as far as taste goes.

also keep in mind you should be "sipping" (for 10+ mins or so) protien shakes other wise your body wont accept and you will just pass it though your system un absorbed

First off, I wouldn't recommend taking it unless you have been lifting at least 6 months and not seen much results. Also Creatine doesn't not actually as much stress on your liver as your think. Recent studies have found that Creatine can be taken up to 5 years or so Without cycling off of it. Creatine's negitive effects are over exaggerated. Most I have heard bad about creatine is that it creates bloating.... excess water weight. To prevent this just don't get any Creatine that is coupled with water molecules. Also anything, but fat(because it bypasses the liver) can put stress on liver. Excess of anything will harm you.

Necro Posted from the stone age.

Lets see: Even though those 3 substances are amino acids, the chemical structure is what determines if its an amino acid or not. Chem class right there.

Also, im drinking muscle milk in the morning now, and Cell Mass after i lift.

I'm not a fan of muscle milk personally because of the saturated fat content which I already get enough of. If you're trying to truly gain some size before season starts, start eating more. To gain mass you have to have a caloric surplus. Most people drink protein shakes thinking it will get them bigger, and although it does help a lot of people truly just don't get enough calories in to get some good size on them. Then when they get some size they complain that they may have lost some abs so they decide to cut, end up losing the muscle mass they gained and end up being a skinny kid with abs. But that is a separate issue.

Headhearthustle, if you want to get bigger, eat more. Simple as that. I shoot for 4800 cals a day and I'm 194 lbs and hopefully going to be around 205 by december. I eat clean which means I have to eat all the time to get that many calories in when they aren't loaded down with saturated fat and sugars.
