A pole is just a shorty but longer right? I mean if you cut down a pole it will be the same weight and stregth as the same shaft as a shorty?

Surprisingly, no it won't. Companies make d-poles just a little thicker to give it extra strength so a cut down pole would be slightly heavier and stronger.
