The sad thing is, she recked those boys lives. No matter if the charges are dropped or not, they will always be known as the boys involved in the rape incedent. But, im glad.

Note how the [no cursing] liberal media runs nothing on this story when the charges are dropped, but when a black woman screams "RAPE" they salivate like Pavlov's dog.

Pale males get shafted once again.

As awesome as this is, the damage has already been done. If you ask anyone who doesn't play lacrosse about the Duke team, the first thing they'll say is "Oh yeah, they're the guys who raped that stripper." Plus, Duke lost what could have been there best season, three excellent players, and an amazing head coach.

It's about time. A inccident blown WAY out of proportion in my opinion that really tarnished the reputation of Lacrosse players in some peoples opinion.

thats good to hear that the charges are dropped...but like stated before, the damage has been done, and it is a shame to see a lacrosse team of that caliber, lose a whole season...wonder if the season would have been changed drastically if this did not happen to duke? i mean i know it would have been different, but by how much? we will never know....

I live in Melbourne Australia and was just reading this thread when I heard the footage of the DA for this case on my TV. This incident is so far spread that it is ridiculous. Aus doesn't normaly get any Lax on TV. Just hope these three can get on with life and get a fair go from everyone.

but yea, those kids lives are pretty much messed up for now, but that stripper and the prosecutor are gonna get sued, i mean after all, this is still America.

Yeah, Im sure Duke feels great right now for firing the head coach who made the lacrosse team what it is, canceling a season that might have brought them a national championship, losing three players and many recruits for years to come, and losing massive amounts of respect over charges that never even made it to court. Way to throw an entire team under a bus and act like they arent even a part of the school anymore over nothing.

They werent just pronounced not gulity, they were pronounced innocent. I smell charges agains the stripper coming.

as much as I hate that the school didn't support them, it's pretty much every school's policy to do exactly what they did. They took it too far by including the entire team as well as the coach, but the school had to distance itself from the kids.

And why would they sue the stripper? Im sure they want to, and she of course deserves to be sued, but what will they get? Because I'm sure that she has sooooooo much money and soooooo much of value. That's why she's working as a stripper.

I'd say one thousand, seven hundred and forty-two articles is not ignoring the story.

Pale males get shafted once again.

Not only that, but America's Sweetheart, Katie Couric, broadcast the CBS Evening News from Raleigh NC tonight. She conducted an extended interview with Reade Seligmann's parents, who had lots to say. I don't think they're in any mood to "let bygones be bygones."

Finally, Duke has a reputation for bright students. I mean, I didn't go there; what more evidence do you need? To whom did the accused turn right away? Why, it was members of the most reviled, hated group in America today*: trial lawyers.

*gays and lesbians not included.

is anyone surprised that the case and all charges were dropped after nifong got taken off the case.. we could all see his motives in pursuing this case were strictly for political gain among the black and liberal community. Im not saying african americans or liberals are bad in any way, all im saying is that nifong was just leveraging this to get their votes.

I think Roy Cooper's strong words will carry a great deal of weight in righting an incredible injustice. I am sure schools are going to open their doors to Seligmann and Finnerty. The truth is, I was completely "wowed" by Reade's composure and confidence during the boys' press release. Any school would be hugely lucky to have him. While I have to admit that the decision to have the kind of entertainment they did was an extremely poor one, they couldn't have handled this past year with any more credibility and dignity. Dave Evan's words of a year ago were proven true. It's just an absolute atrocity that it took over a year to do so.

Thank goodness, though it took a year too long to right this terrible wrong. Nifong's incredulous statements just irked me, especially after the DNA results were released last year. A DA is the top law enforcement officer for his/her jurisdiction, and in this case Nifong completely abused his office. IMM, justice will not be complete until Nifong is put on trial for his misconduct.

I am glad these "fantastic lies" have been righted and Duke and the lacrosse world and move on. I am a strong believer in the persecution and embarassment of Ms. Mangum. I think sh should be sent to prison for slander. Unfortunatly this isn't going to happen. The DA already said they are not going to file anything against her because she may be mentally unstable and really may have actually thought she was raped...

It's all crap but atleast these boys have had their name cleared. And like Tony Cornheiser said yesterday on PTI, "This is America in 2007. You can make almost anything go away if you try hard enough." im sure these boys will make this dissappear over time

the prosecutor is immune to lawsuits because of certain laws in this country, and the stripper doesn't have any money to get sued for, which is why she tried to set up the players in the first place.

i would not be surprised if the players were to turn around and file a lawsuit against duke university for the legal fees they have racked up over the past year and thirty days in defence of what was essentially the truth. i know probably pretty much every one on this board wore their blue innocent wristbands today, but the couple dollars or so they have obtained from those could not possibly account for the thousands upon thousands of dollars for protecting themselves in their innocence. and the university did absolutly nothing to help them.

Wow, I didn't know most of that stuff about her.....

On that note, what a good for nothing, low class pos.......seriously, that lady is a lowlife scumbag. Those people take from the earth, and give nothing back.

Why would they sue her? They aren't going to make millions of dollars, that's for sure. No, if it was me, I would sure as hell sue her...ruin her life, take her money, basically screw her over. That wouldn't even start to fix the damage she did to those guys though. She ruined the lives of three men who actually amounted to something, were good citizens, and were growing up to be something in the world. None of which she can say she has done.

This case is a travesty on so many fronts. It has caused irreparable pain and damage to the reputations of the accused, it erodes the public's already shaky confidence in the legal system and it probably doesn't help the case of those women who now, or in the future, are truly sexually assaulted. Nifong has a lot of answering to do and should be prosecuted for misconduct.

Any one just see Jon Stewart talk about it. And then talk Mad Junk about Nancy Grace? yeah, that was soooo worth it. I really hope the duke boys got a laugh out of that.

It may not be justice. But it is something.

I am glad these "fantastic lies" have been righted and Duke and the lacrosse world and move on. I am a strong believer in the persecution and embarassment of Ms. Mangum. I think sh should be sent to prison for slander. Unfortunatly this isn't going to happen. The DA already said they are not going to file anything against her because she may be mentally unstable and really may have actually thought she was raped...As you correctly recounted, the DA will not pursue criminal charges against Crystal Mangum. It really isn't worth it for them, and I won't get into too much detail here, but there is a bit of a double standard against false rape accusations. It's territory prosecutors highly avoid treading.

The former Duke players could file a civil case against Mangum, but as others pointed out, what would they have to gain from it? You can only sue for monetary damages in a civil case, and Mangum has nothing to monetarily to lose. Just want to make clear that no one is going to prison for slander.

Let's not forget the real villian in all this is Nifong. I highly doubt Mangum expected the case to explode into a nationally discussed boiler-pot. I highly doubt she wanted the national attention or is smart enough to think she could somehow get rich from her false rape indictments. Nifong, on the other hand, took the case and ran w/ it all the way to his re-election. By his own admission, he never even formally interviewed his victim, Ms Mangum. I've read & seen other interviews w/ ppl who claimed to be close to Mangum. They said Mangum wanted to drop charges (again, another indicator that Mangum had realized her accusations were blowing up in her face), but that Nifong refused and pressured her to allow him to keep pursuing the case (for his own self-gain).

It's all crap but atleast these boys have had their name cleared. And like Tony Cornheiser said yesterday on PTI, "This is America in 2007. You can make almost anything go away if you try hard enough." im sure these boys will make this dissappear over time...if you try hard enough and have $3 million (http://www.newsobserver.com/1185/story/540218.html) to spend on your legal defense, that is. If they were three boys from poor or even middle-class income families, they probably would have spent the past year behind bars.

which most people would find surprising because the students (scholarships or not) attended duke. Now it'll be interesting to see what happens to Mike Nifong he deserves to be in jail for life for ruining the lives of those three men.

Unfortunately as other poster have alluded to, the spectre of this incident will continue to haunt them despite their innocence.

Just this past weekend Saturday nights showing of the sketch comedy "MAD TV" aired a fake commercial about a new drink combining two fruits and called "Date Grape" (say it fast and you'll get the joke) The commercial featured a co-ed girl guzzeling a bottle of Date Grape while a half dozen fully geared up lacrosse players in white and blue waited for the drink to take effect....
