Recently my coach has switched me to playing the crease defender on a simple three man zone defense. The only problem is that I have never played it before and don't have much of an idea how to play it. Can any experienced players help me out with this please?

Crease is tough because you have to stay close to the creaseman but have to bealert for slides and cutters. I try handguard the creaseman while looking around. Also play stick on stick and check as soon as goalie indicates"check". Also take a free wack at the creaseman whenever there is a shot or loose ball w/i 5 yards. Always stay goalside, especially on shots so that the attackman cannot get any rebounds. When you slide(if that is your job) make sure to take body, don't just go after stick.

You have to keep your eye on everything. As said, play up with the goalie, only pick up your man when he's running up on the crease; as long as he's not in front of the goal, he can't shoot. Just keep an eye for when he makes his cut, and pick up cutters when they lose their man.

Other than that, you're pretty much going to be standing sideways all day, you have to be able to keep your eye on the ball, and swivel your head to keep another eye on your man, hence, 'keep your head on a swivel'. Your coach is probably confident in your body checks to put you at that position so make him proud.
