ok. title can be a little misleading. we all know it is illegal to body check someone without the ball. but here is what happened today to me:

ok. my defender was playing a kid behind the net to the left, and i was on the right side of the net. Ground ball, mass of people, one kid from the other team comes up victorious. He runs towards the net, runs across the crease, and as he jump shoots, i put a body on him and he goes flying. However, 4 or 5 yards back he lost the ball, I never saw it, he never noticed it, and I barrelled over him.

Is that a penalty?

If you are within 5 yards of the ball, you can legally hit someone.

"Body checking is permitted if the opponent has the ball or is within five yards of a loose ball. All body contact must occur from the front or side, above the waist and below the shoulders, and with both hands on the stick. An opponent's crosse may also be stick checked if it is within five yards of a loose ball or ball in the air. Aggressive body checking is discouraged."

As long as it was from the front or side, its perfectly fine according to the rules.

Around the net my coach says he would rather see us take a penalty than give up an easy goal. When there's a loose ball near the net I put people on their *** regardless of any penalty.

sort of about this... if you run like a fake little flip pass and they other team buys it and thinks someone else has the ball and the balls is like 15 yards away and they body check you is it a penalty b/c it happened to one of our attackmen today
