it hasnt happend for as long as ive been alive i think like early 80's? but with a current loosing record and a ranking that is not currently going to get them in the tournament does anyone else think that this is the year that SU is going to break their streak and miss the NCAA's?

Cuse made the tournament that year, but not the final four- lost to Umass first or second round.

Syracuse has not missed the tourney since the 70s. They must win all remaining games to finish with a winning record and be eligible. Given what they did to Rutgers yesterday I would not count them out.

I think they have a shot, they just have to beat albany which is a VERY talented team but SU hasnt lost to them in the last 40 games i believe?

SU has got their backs to the wall, which after seeing the game against Rutgers, looks like enough motivation to get them to the postseason.
Oh, and Steve Panarelli didn't start against Rutgers. Maybe that'll teach him to play some fundamental D and not go for all those exotic home-run checks.

i have been watching SU lacrosse for as long as i can remember, and i have never been more annoyed or upset when watching games...
frankly, i think they are wasting a lot of talent with the way they play.
they seem to play a very individualistic style, and i've seen them celebrate their butts off when they score, even when they are losing...
they play very sloppy defense, and their goalie play is suspect at best...
they need to realize that they aren't mikey powell, and no one on their team will ever hold a candle to his level of play... they are run-of-the-mill players who need to get over themselves, and play the game...
only when they achieve greatness, can they act like they are great... until then, they will never have the respect of any true lacrosse figures...

I believe its the dawn of a new age. Teams like Albany are getting better, contending and beating the big boys.
In my opinion it would be a good thing for them not to go.

Cuse' has Albany next witch is going to be a greatgame is Cuse' plays as wel as they can. But if they don't win I don't think that it's possible for them to get into the tourney. But next year they will have a little more experinced team and are not losing to many key players.

I completely agree. A certain beast of an attackman (not naming any names...) seems to only try when he gets angry, and when he's angry he's pretty much unstoppable. Once he scores after this, he seems to raise his arms to the crowd as if to give a big "what now?!". He should be doing this the whole game, not just when he wants too.
I simply don't think a lot of players have the heart to win. Half arsed rides and clears are a gigantic problem for them from what I've seen (which is almost every game). They just don't seem to care for the most part, I've seen numerous times when at least 2 attackman are waving their sticks in front of the goalie trying to knock down a pass. Is that how Desko's teaching you to ride? If so, looks like we need a new coach, and fast.
In short, its a team game and Syracuse just isn't playing like a team. Look what happens against G'Town, Cornell, and Rutgers when we play like a team, we can take almost any team out there. When we start to play like individuals, games like Army and Loyola happen.

It's official. For the first time since '82, Cuse's only trip to Baltimore will be if they have tickets.

I was at the UMass v. 'Cuse game, and it was intense stuff. UMass is underrated as usual. Although they lost Sean Morris, Jack Reid, and Jake Dean, they have a very talented young team with Tim Balise (soph) and Jim Connolly (soph) leading them on attack and Doc Scheinder (soph) holding it down in net.
I was reading the article on the tournament selection and once I saw the table at the bottom I was very confused. I look through all the rating factors compulsively on laxpower.com and the SOS being used are in no way accurate, especially for UMass, the article has them listed with a 33 SOS (and says it was using laxpower as a source) when laxpower has UMass at 15. Thats a huge difference.
UMass' games versus highly ranked teams were all very close games. They took Albany to OT, Georgetown loss by 1 goal (which was on the ref's shoulders I believe). That should count for something!
Basically, UMass is Tournament worthy. Let me know what you think.

Wow. I never thought this would happen. Syracuse always seemed to be one of those teams you could depend on to make it far every year. And now they're out of the tourny.

They made the Final 4 last year, and lost to UVa

I wonder what the problem was? Bad Attitude, no hustle, or just not enough skill? something must've been goin on for them to finish with a record that they did.

SU has not missed a ncaa appearance in 25 years and after their loss to UMass the other day, ESPNU said that they have already missed the tournament no matter what they do the remainder of the season

no, on cstv they said they would have to win every game, they did untill they lost to umass. so now they are out like a light. nocks them down a peg, its good for them.

This just shows how much lacrosse talent there is out there. When you see these former non power houses beating the syarcuses, Hopkins, etc..It will not feel right watching the Torney this year with out seeing the orange out there.

I have to disagree. Not that I am a 'Cuse hater, but seeing different teams in the tourny is good for the sport at large. When it becomes predictable the casual fan (if there is such a thing in lacrosse) becomes less interested. New blood, the chance of an upset, the chance that we will have a different champion instead of the usual suspects, all good for increasing fan interest.
That being said, would love to see Duke hoist the hardware this year to put a nice exclamation point on the whole false allegation thing!

SYRACUSE did not make the tournament, you need a winning record to make it, syaracuse is out with a final 5-7 record
