I need to do some fundraising for the team that I coach. We're broke....actually worse than broke we're $500 in the hole. What's a good way to fundraise that some of you have done? What companies will donate money(we're non-profit with a tax ID number)? Do any of you work with/for a place that will donate to youth sports? Any help would be appreciated, unless of course you say "do a car wash" or "bake sale"

we get a lot of donations from parents for our youth program. its a line on the registration form, and parents do use it.

timmy - that is a good idea consdering ladies in scandolous shorts and shirts would get more business thena few grungy lacrosse guys, right? =]....but also, we had the same problem with our school. The school's dont fund us in Salem right now, we havent proved ourselves they say, plus we've only had the team for 3 years. But we put together a book of our team containing Bio's and pictures and stuff, but parents and friends could purchase like half or full page sectrions that they could write notes to our team adn stuff, but they costed money. This might sound kind of confusing, but when I get back home I'll try to find it and snap a few pictures of it. It turned our [pretty nice. And because we had some wealthy parents on the team, we were also able to get some serious money that way.

We also attempted a can drive....which was fun, but after everyone kind of took there own..."share," por se, we only ended up profiting like $6.35.

yeah, do a program that local businesses can buy add space in

also, our team made a deal with a local car wash/ detailing shop where we sell coupons to people and get to keep the profits from it

how about you just go around to local business saying if they'll sponsor you, you'll have announcement/signs at home games about them.

Theres this thing where you sell $10 cards that have discounts and stuff like that on the back of them, we did that and made mondo amounts of money, but now we are school sponsored.

well i have been playing sports all my life, and have sold almost everything as well. from chocolates to pepperoni, to minor league baseball tickets. i dont know if you have krispy Kreames near you but we have done that and we made good money. also my college lax team is currently selling t shirts we made. we bulk made them for like $3 and are selllin them for 10. a couple years ago some of the other college clubs used to have a topless car wash but people were getting in accidents looking at the girls so the city put a stop to it. also i would look on the net nad see if their is any sites that have ideas. maybe contact uslacrosse and see if they can help you at all.

A car wash is good, cause you get 100% of the money whereas for tshirts you would have to buy them, etc.

We made over 1000 bucks in one car wash

yea i know what you are saying but in college everybody does that kind of stuff, this way they get a little something out of it and its not the same ol same ol fundraiser. but yes if you have the ability to make all of the money then i would do that.

our lax program is not funded by school so our team hosts a mulch sale in spring to raise money to go towards balls, hotels, buses, etc. make every player try to sell 100 bags of mulch. we make huge profits - youd be surprised how many people will buy mulch

we had to fund our team when iwas back in highschool ... and to raise money, we made every player pay some dues to get a substantial base of money to work wtih

then we went to the local companies and asked for donations (its tax deductable for them, so most dont care about doing it) and then we sold tshirts at our games ... its better to sell them at games, esp if youwin, lol.

its basic stuff like that that ends up adding up

fundrasing.com or soemthing like that has a good program, we almost used them .. they have a scratch ticket thing that looked the most promising.. the deal is they scratch a circle off and then pay the amount showing, and in return they get coupons to local chains like subway, mcdonalds and the like .. we didnt do it, but it sounds like a good deal

then tehre is always girl scout cookies, but make them lax scout cookies instead, haha

ok i have a question for the college teams out there, we need to come up with around 2000 dollars, we are gonna have the guys prolly pay some dues out of their own pockets but how did any of you college clubs make money. our school is in a small town where pretty much its ran by the university so the more stuff you get for your dollar the betteer if you know what i mean. we are selling shirts but those are also to get people to wear them and come to our games to support us. do any of you and i say again COLLEGE CLUB guys have any ideas?

this works but you can only do it once. have everyone on the team send out 10 letters each asking for donations because of the poor financial state of the team. include pre addressed empty envelopes with stamps on them so it makes it harder for them to say no. we pulled in well over 5000 dollars doing this but you can only do it once, you cant ask the same people for money every year.

that's what first year dues at arizona state were when I played. it's only for first year players i believe, i didn't stick around long enough to find out. we didnt' get all custom equipment, we had to pay for gloves and helmet in team colors. They might have changed things a bit in the past few years, but that's what the cost was. University of Arizona had to pay more than that I heard. What can ya do

Our team dues are $200 which are really low. The school kicks in about $2000 which goes straight to SELC league dues and almost covers them.

Find out if you can get tax deductible status through your school. The way it works at USC is parents write a check to The Student Educational Foundation, and it's earmarked for lacrosse. I'm guessing the school gets paid interest on it, because we're not supposed to take money out that often.

Also, use the same tax deductible status for getting donations from campus hotspots...where the students hang out...bars (we're not allowed to do that, but you might), eateries, etc. Tell them if they give you x amount of money, you'll put their name/logo on the back of your under-the-pads tshirt, which guys would wear around anyways when there's not a game. Get a few sponsers, and you'll have enough money to buy the shirts and then some. Figure out some cool logo or funny saying for the front..."like we're the guys your girlfriend thinks about when she's having sex with #6"....or something. Also you could get the tshirt company you get 'em made through to sponser you by knocking off some of the costs of the tshirt.

get together a sponsership packet like what Arizona State has on their website. Actually go around and pass it out to people. Their amounts are kind of high, but go ahead and scale it down, especially since you're a new program. You could probably get programs printed up at your school (a sheet of paper folded in half) and put advertisments or coupons on the back. If a company has a banner that they could hang up on the fence at your next game, feel free to do that for a fee.

These are all ideas that you could do without depending on a team effort. There's nothing worse than having a car wash and only 3 guys show up.

you could get some team sweatshirts and apparel and sell it, some teams raise $ doing that. You can sell it to players, parents, etc
