goalie interference on a clear

this happened to me in a game not to long ago.....

i had made a save and i went to clear the ball.
a attackman came running across the crease, not trying to block the ball but just running to get to my defenceman on the right side (he was running from left to right along the crease)
so as i went to clear the ball i hit the kid on my follow through
i wasnt tryin to hit the kid (well actually i was) but it was and extensive follow through just a regular one.
the ball on the clear went to the other team because of the obstruction the kids helment made with my stick.
the ref didnt give me a free clear.
when i asked him he said that he didnt make contact with me that i hit him......

did the ref make the right call or am i not understandin the free clear ruling right??

i looked for other threads but didnt find any......

Well if you really did a poor job at selling the fact that you weren't trying to hit him. Then he made the right call.

Read these Approved Rulings from the NCAA Rulebook.

Rule 5-7 A.R. 14. A1, in the act of shooting or passing, strikes B1 on the head because of his legitimate follow-through motion. Has A1 committed a foul for striking an opponent on the head? RULING: No.

Rule 6-3 A.R. 10. Goalkeeper B1, who is in his crease with possession, throws an outlet pass while attack player A1 stands in front of the crease in a covering position. B1 releases the ball, and then after the ball is out of his crosse, the natural follow-through carries B1’s crosse into A1’s. RULING: Goalkeeper interference by A1. Play-on, and award the ball to team B across midfield if the pass is not completed.

In this scenario, as long as the GK makes his follow-though look natural, he will almost always get the benefit of the doubt. Like Paulvi wrote, you must have done a bad job selling it.

no trust me i do it all the time and i know how to sell it...... but the next play i did it again the the ref. gave me a free clear only that time the kid was standin in front of me.....
