High School game NFHS rules
During play last night, while A1 drove to goal, B1 shoe fell off. My partner threw his flag. A1 scored. My partner picked up his flag because of technical foul wiped out by goal.
Did I miss something? Since when is losing a shoe "playing without equipment"?

Shoes are required equipment

NFHS rules are mute on playing without equipment other than the crosse (playing without the crosse is IP). The NFHS rules seem to say you should just stop play if a player loses required equipment, IIRC. However, many officials treat playing without equipment as IP.
And, yes, shoes are required. Also, NFHS rules explicitly prohibit the wearing of gymnastics slippers. No joking.

Thanks. Kind of takes away the spirit of the game if the player could not be barefoot.
My partner quoted NCAA. I treated it like a mouthpiece being dislodged after a check.

ILF Rules requier shoes as well but it is a play on when nobody is in danger. (similat to an obpen helm strap or so...
The situation above is one question in the test for refs in germany.

Sorry: I can't help myself .... What about Sandals, do they qualify as shoes?
Seriously this was asked once, and quite the discussion occurred during a certification clinic up here a few years ago.

You know, most ARs originate with a referee who's confronted with a situation that isn't covered in the rules. Imagine being that referee for a minute... :WTF:

To be serious, though, I think this all falls under safety. It's easy to see how open-toed or insubstantial footwear makes their wearers more vulnerable to injury, and referees have pretty wide latitude to enforce safety issues...
...although I imagine I'd have a hard time keeping my face straight while explaining to a player why they couldn't wear ballet slippers :chuckle:

Those little rules about having to wear shoes and what kind of shoes doesn't surprise me at all. In college I had a teammate from Panama or somewhere (he was a missionary's kid) and NEVER wore shoes except in the snow. He would even play barefoot in practice, but had to wear shoes in games.

Well that is exactly what our argument was (and still is) we didn't make a rule about it, it is now the 'accepted interpretation'. and the discussion is over.
As in your areas, we have some officials here who just look for silly crap and bring it up on occasion.

Isn't that what refs always do when you get enough of them together?

SSHHH! Don't let everyone know what really goes on at rules meetings. Man, if you keep talking people are going to figure out that they're held at bars, then we're all in trouble!

EG: in a discussion at a CLINIC no less ....
So what happens if the ball hits the post,
Splits in HALF,
Half crosses the goal line and is completely within the net,
the other half bounce out to the corner.
Is it a Goal?
Correct answer is No, only half the ball is in the net. Simple really.
however certain people cant let that go ... but half of it is in the net!
True, but half the ball is not the ball. half the ball is only half, not he complete ball. so ...

Wow... which clinic was that? We didn't have anything nearly as contentious at the Montreal clinic.

at the Border Wars tournament, our player lost a shoe on a dodge. he immediately stopped running and passed the ball to our player standing next to him, then bent down to get his shoe. they called this pass playing without equipment and we got a penalty...

iirc, he lost his shoe, passed it and then proceded to set a pick....the penalty you refer to was loss of possession....
again, iirc, it was late in a game Chaparral won 15-5....stop whining ya big baby....

he didnt set a pick. he just literally dropped the ball next to another one of our players then bent down to put his shoe on. and yeah we won but i was relating to the topic of the thread....but that last part was pretty funny haha.
