Wasn't sure where to put this thread but I'm a girl so I thought I'd put it in the Women's forum.

But, doesn't it irritate you when people who know nothing about the sport of lacrosse use the term "lax" like they know everything and have been playing it forever?

I think dedicated fans and players should only be allowed to use "lax".

What's your take?

i don't like when people use it in a sarcastic or in a condescending way. if they use it in seriousness like "when's your lax game, i'm thinking about going?" than it's fine

well lax is easier to say than lacrosse, especially online or when passing someone in the halls so it doesnt bother me at all

Can't say that it bothers me.

What does bother me is when people who know nothing about the sport try and argue with me about it, and then I usually just laugh at them and walk away anyway.

lol im not even surprised its lax now more than lacrosse....ppl always find a way to shorten words so its easier...i prefer lacrosse so ppl know what im talking about. the only thing botherin with saying that is being so damn lazy to say the whole word...i mean it doesnt take that longer time to say lacrosse and not lax. in typing i dont care cuz u might be in a hurry and if cant type fast itd take time lol

haha. you're funny. :worship:

i only write it. i never say it out loud. but i don't really think it's that big of a deal. you kind of make it sound like we're a secret club not a nationally recognized sport.

I only WRITE lax because i'm to lazy to say lacrosse. I too hate it when newbies just say LAX cause they wanna act like they know the game when the only time they've picked up a stick was in junior high PE. I agree, "lax" is reserved for hardcore players.

As a Coach, and I'm sure that almost all of us do it, I teach respect for the game. Calling lacrosse "lax" doesn't even enter my mind and it bothers me to hear people say it. Another often used term in regard to box lacrosse is "boxla" and that's one I don't like either.

I know a guy that refers to football as "footie". I want to throw a lacrosse ball at him everytime I hear it.

Does it really matter? I never actually say it, I think it sounds lame. I only use it when I'm online and need to say it quickly.

Whatev, though.

omg i hate that! also when people talk about the lacrosse equipment they prefer and they've been playing for like a year.... one time this girl who was a first year player was like: "oh dang- these are stx gloves! im just a girl who loves my debeer!" and i thought it was so dumb cuz she probly just learned what those were yesterday!

its just a little confusing when you're like i'm gonna go lax and people think you mean relax? but i guess i type it sometimes but other than that i just say lacrosse. some guy baseball players in my area tend to be like oh you're just a laxer in like a negative (but kidding, usually) way. but i know why. they're just jealous that they don't play lacrosse lol
