Had a case this week where some thought the goalie's extra baggy sweatpants helped him in stopping shots that game.
Nothing in the rulebook covers this....hockey shin guards not allowed is about allI could find.

I think despite not being listed in the rule book, if you feel they are giving the goalie advantage, tell him to change. "special equip worn by the goalkeeper may not exceed that of a field player, plus standard goalie equip." which in my mind is not sweatpants big enough to snag balls.

I would have a problem with calling this. It may have just the opposite affect by limiting the goalies range/motion.

It amazes me how our society is evolving to the point where our failings are typically someone else’s fault .

When I was a player, I fit into size Medium shorts. I wore XXL because at least twice a ball that bounced and went up the leg of my shorts or got caught in the extra material between my legs saved a goal. The shorts themselves were uniform, just too big from a fashion standpoint. Will I ever call a goalie for this little "advantage?" Not until the rules explicitly tell me to. It might skirt the lines of cheating, but if any of those shots my shorts caught when I was playing were faster, it wouldn't have been an issue. If somebody came on the field wearing shorts that looked like a skirt, then I might have an issue, but as long as it's close enough I'd be hard pressed to do anything.

when we played intermural floor hockey, i wore baggy pants to help stop pucks, when i got stuck in the lax goal, i wore the sweatpants because they kept my legs warm and it felt like they bruised less. i'm not sure they were much of a help stopping the ball, i was particularly eager NOT to get hit where they were baggiest.
the floor hockey pucks were much lighter and didnt attain nearly the same velocity

Sweat pants are explicitly legal!

I think he's referring to a goalie taking advantage of an arguably vague rule regarding his particular equipment. Even though sweat pants are legal, I think it's debatable as to whether we're going to allow a goalie to use them to block shots. However, I also feel like this is a slippery slope and that for us to try to enforce some sort of standard we'll end up having to measure waists and inseams before the game.

Some years back I officiated a game and the goalie was wearing football pants. He had put very oversized thigh pads in them to the extent that there was little room between his legs even though they were apart. I had him remove the pads. I feel that I was justified in doing so as the pads were not being used for protection but rather to cover more area than was normal. Goalie hockey gloves are not permitted for the same reason.

exactly
i wear sweatpants because they take the sting out, and because once in a while they will send a shot off ,or help to re-direct it.
they rarely stop a ball, but i'm happy when it happens.
if the ref is going to complain, as him to cover 36square feet of goal and wind up on him at 100mph

So last season I was in goal with sweatpants and some how the ball ended up in the pocket of my pants, still have no idea how it happened. So the ref calls a delay of game on me. I am just woundering the exact rule because I have had a ball get lost in a jersey and the ref just the wistled the play dead and gave us a end line clear.

that seems like a fair call.
that's so dumb...a delay of game because you made a save and lost the ball lol
well that sounds kinda dumb too..

Bad call. Equipment becomes stuck in goalie's equipment, award to the defense outside the box.
