Okay I saw this picture of Clarington Junior Goalie, and there is all this white stuff around his crease. I imagine its some sort of chalk, the same kind you use when you are lifting at the gym. I sweat a lot in the unairconditioned rinks in Quebec Junior league, and i get that really "wet" look in my crease, sometimes almost risking an ankle sprain because i move sooo much in my nets (im much more reaction than a standard angle... also considering i'm like the smallest in the league 5'10" 190lbs only haha... im serious tho! Normally when i tank it at the gym, they have that chalk stuff lying around, but ive never thought of using in the rink. Does this stuff work to absorb water? Let me know all you fellow tenders, especially that Gaels goalie in the link:http://www.greengaels.org/2006/mavericks/creased.jpg

It's called Rosin. It's the stuff that MLB pitchers use when they pick up that little bag behind the mound.

here in clarington the floors suck out loud. the A pad gets bad when it gets hot and the B pad sucks all year, even when the ice is in. The gaels put chalk on the floor infront of both doors, and i know waldo( the goalie in that pic) has had a history of groin/ leg injuries so i beleive its to keep him from sliping. Puting it in the crease also allows players to get teh moisture off in the pre period huddle.

most visiting goalies keep a towel inside the net and wipe up the crease after / during fights/ penalites and injury timeouts.

Yeah the refs in my league disallow ANYTHING in my crease, towels, even paper towels and water bottle obviously. So this Rosin stuff is what i'm going to look into. Lol some of the nastier french town i've played have actually dumped water in my crease before the 3rd period. Its pretty funny, but not cool when you are making unintentional split saves all night lol. Laxgoalieking are you playing junior this season?

Just looking up on the Rosin, and its claimed to be very hard to wash off. Any thoughts? Like does it stuff onto your gear and just make it look gross.... i imagine that dark toned leg pads would look really bad after a game?

i dont recall seeing anything on kyles shins in camp last week. but he could have washed them off, and when he goes down its usualy just droping straigh to his knees not in the bitter fly position. If your using a pad like rebel which have the nylon on the sides and you do butter fly I'd imagine it be pretty hard to get it off.

You saw it coming didnt you eh, I'm a Jr.A hockey goalie as it, i tend to bust out a number of butterfly saves a game, i have a pretty unorthodox style, but its working :) well other people must be okay with as i've been scouted to play out in ontario out your way

Charlottetown Abbies in the Maritime league MJAHL
Worst team ever, i'm twenty year next year, and I also got my release... lol which i figure is why only my names remains on the site... my fricking game numbers have disappared now that you mention it lol??!! Probably gonna come back to Quebec for next year, or play for McGill's varsity team who knows. Dude why are you not playing junior, im looking on this forum and you are like one of the biggest posters.... too young hurting you i guess eh? is there no other junior team in the area other than clarington?

IF you were asking which lax teams, the Ottawa Titans, Akwesasne Indians and the KW braves. The only team i would consider is Akwesasne because ist only like 50 minutes from where i live in Montreal, but they are an expansion team, and i'm not native.... which means alot of that reservation... but the place is loaded with cash to pay for expenses and equipment

Dude if you are up to it, there is a Junior team on the south shore of montreal which is actively recruiting for a goalie. They ideally want me, but my current team loves me too much to let me go lol.... They are offering alot. The team is called the Longeuil Patriotes, and THEY HAVE MONEY for you if you want to play/live 3.5 hours from home this summer. They'll billet you and get you a job, and the coaching staff is all english... but most of the players are french i know that much. They'll get your gear and everything, and probably pay you a salary... plus they get like 800 peeps to their games, so its a half decent team to play for. http://www.patrioteslacrosse.com/ You can just drop a message on the forum of the website, and the coach will get back to you on that easily, and very quickly.

PS i am no way trying to solicite this team at all, im just trying to help a brother out

To be honest, I never saw any goalies bring towels out. As for the rosin, all it does is adhere your shoe to the floor, it does nothing for moisture or anything of that nature.

Since that Rosin in the picture is mine, I can tell you that the Rosin does stick in your pads for a practice or so, but leaves no noticable marks or anything of that nature over time.

Rosin used to be my best friend in box whether the floor was good or bad. It is relatively expensive though.

Weebs used rosin in Elora in the 04 Founders too. I used to have more pictures posted of that, but I am in the middle of revamping the site so...

OK, since the topic of rosin is taken care of, Evan, tell us abotu this guy: Constantin Chahknov - is he a Russian lacrosse goalie? (which would be a first)

Yes Con has a russian heritage, and has dual-citizenship in both Canada and the former USSR. However, he was born and raised here in montreal, but his parents immigrated here from Moscow during the 70s. As far as him being the first russian box goalie, i doubt it. For info on more european box, check out the Green Gaels Junior travel team who are currently playing in the Czech Republic in a box tourney with teams from Ireland, Czech, USA, Austria, and England.... http://unofficialola.com/prague/07gaelstravelteam.html and the tournament homepage in english... http://www.lcc-radotin.cz/ Note that the ontario team is actually carrying a Quebec Junior player... Christophe Perron, who is actually quite well!!! Note Chris was the QJLL league MVP last year.... I was the runner-up haha

If you want more info on Costantin, he played his second year in junior as a third string back-up at the ripe age of 16... yes his first year he was 15! While two years ago he didnt see any action, he got his first taste last year... and this year has officially made the team! He has been playing on the midget rep team in the area, because i basically play every minute of every Junior game lol... and you can see more stats of the league at this link if you are interested.... http://www.crossejunior.ca/nouvelles/communiques2.php?id=2006_096_lcjq

2006 West-Island shamrocks goalie stats:
Name Minutes GP W GA Shutouts
Evan Morris 715 12 9 82 1 (2 in my Junior career!)
Constantin Chahknov 90 2 0 20 0
David Paré 100 3 0 21 0
Chris Barnhart 75 2 0 25 0

I'm confused by what you mean by this, adhering??? It makes them stick to the floor, why would I as a goalie want my feet to stick the floor... i want to be able to move around??? Could you explain this further please?

lol... not stick to the point that your feet are planted to the ground. Just to the point that your not slipping around and such. I suggest you get your hands on it and try it out atleast once. It's good stuff.

Evan, rosin is used on arena floors that are prone to moisture, especially on a humid or damp day. Kind of like the concept of hairspray, but in powder form.

As for the Russian goalie - I have never heard of any Russian lacrosse at all, neither field nor box.

BTW - the Green Gaels won the Alex Herebesky Tournament in Prague today - they went 5-0 and marched right through the competition. The most important aspect is that they are spreading the word of boxla in Europe and that is pretty cool...
