hi, in my game yesterday, a d-pole on my team passed it up to me, an attackmen, and i caught the ball but was then pushed, from behind, over the midfield line. Would this be considered offsides?

No, because they would call a penalty for a push in the back I would guess.

What did the ref say, that should tell you if it was or was not illegal.

The answer depends upon whether another of your teammates (usually a midfielder) covered you by going to the attack side while you were catching the pass.
[a] If you were covered, then you were not offside.
[b] If you were not covered, then you were the 8th player on defense and, thus, offside.
If, as you state, a push from behind with possession caused you to go offside, then the official should have thrown a flag down for the push and sounded the whistle as soon as you went offside. (The offside violation, like going out of bounds or into the crease, stops the slow whistle.) Then your opponent should have been penalized 30 seconds for the push.

the answer is yes, you're offsides....however, if as you say, you were pushed from behind that infraction would take precedent....
should go something like this:
push, "Play on!", offsides thus killing the play on....a bang-bang play.....
