Title says it all. What player in the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL or whatever league do you think would be a great lacrosse player.

I could see Steve Nash being a great player, he has decent height for lax and also is not selfish at all. Another guy i thought of was Jose Reyes becasue of his speed.

Sidney Crosby for the Penguins. great athlete, good leader and can either do it himself or make other players better.

Martin Brodeur would make a nasty lacrosse goalie. He has such quick reactions and isnt afraid to sacrifice the body for a save.

Not really, in a far-out schemed un-technical sense, I guess.

But it does happen often that great lacrosse players were great hockey players or vise versa.

Brendan Shanahan. My dad knows him personally and he is OBSESSED with lacrosse. He uses Warrior hockey equipment too. He's also a great hockey player and hockey is very similar to lacrosse (I play both).

But in his prime, Bo would have been something to watch.

roycegracie47
04-23-2007, 09:12 PM
Bo was an amazing athlete...

I remember hearing about him playing highschool baseball. Supposedly once he was pitching and kinda screwing around with pitches because it wasnt a close game, and his coach went up to the mound and gave him an earfull. 9 pitches later he ended the inning with 3 strikeouts. Then another time he was at the plate and hit an infield popup, and got really pissed about it so he sprinted the bases. When the infielder caught the ball, he was standing on 3rd base.

Id like to see him and Deion Sanders playing lacrosse on the same field.
My favorite anecdote came from the Raiders training camp when Bo finally decided to end his sitout and join the NFL. One veteran defender was complaining he got completely dusted by the new rookie and wondered if he was getting old. The teamate he was complaining to simply replied, "You're not old, that's just Bo Jackson."

It's a shame his career ended the way it did (I just couldn't resist the joke).

Insert Sal Locasio Joke here.....

There are plenty of NBA centers I've wondered about sticking a pole in their hands and telling them not to let anyone into the crease. One of coaches in college brought this up while we were watching our basketball team on senior day.

But an athlete I'd like to see play is Gilbert Arenas. Aside from being a big fan , I think Agent Zero would make a great player. An unselfish guy who works hard and runs an offense like nobodies business. Man I wish he hadn't gotten injured at the close of this season.

GoBucks
04-24-2007, 04:56 PM
Stick Shaq in at crease attack. Only problem I can see is running in the open field, but he moves decently well for his size and age and he'd be able to set monster picks on anyone. With good stick skills he'd be sweet at one-timers and garbage goals on the crease.

Most canadian hockey players also played lacrosse, so any gifted hockey player you be a great offensive lacrosse player.
Sidney Crosby, Gretzky, Paul Kariya, Joe Sakic, Joe Nieuwendyk.
Adam Oates once scored 29 points in one game.
Imagine Scott Stevens, Ray Bourque, Chris Chelios, or Chris Pronger playing D.
Eddy Belfour or Broduer for goal

LT could play any position well, even goalie, but at attack or middie, Kyle Harrison with power.

Imagine a Defense with Merriman, Butkus, Junior Seau, Ronnie Lott, Neon Deion.

Steve Nash, another canadian, would be a sick middie.

Any great skilled basketball player - Jordan, Magic, Bird, Lebron.
Fins a great basket defensive player, you have a shutdown defenseman- Michael Cooper, Larry Bird, Jordan,

My line-up
A- Mike Vick, quick change of direction and good vision, feeder from X
A- Devon Hester, quick, great change of direction, not afraid to take chances, main dodger from the wing
A- Dwayne Wade, FAST, ability to get open, dodger and crease player
M- Adrian Peterson, insane speed and change of direction, can run around you or over you. Would be a great transition player
M- LT, come on he's the most athletic person in any league today, would be a great down hill dodger from the top
M- Reggie Bush, great speed and change of direction, another great transition guy
SSDM- Champ Bailey, best cover corner in the NFL, would be a great defensive midfielder
SSDM- Pac-man Jones, a do everything midfielder who would be able to play unbelievable position defense
LSM- Lebron James, he's tall fast, has long arms so he would keep his distance while being able to throw checks, good vision for transition up the field, and wouldn't be afraid to take it to the net
D- Brian Urlacher, I'd want him when he was in college, a little smaller than now, fast enough cause he used to return kicks in college, Aggressive!
D- Chuck Lidell, UFC fighter who is nasty, would be the takeaway guy in the defense, knows how to use his hands and would be able to throw devastating checks\
D- Jevon Kearse, Big physical player who has the speed to keep up with anyone, LONG reach to throw checks at a distance
G- Sidney Crosby, has great vision for outlets, already gets hit with a puck with less padding than the goalie, has the speed to carry the ball upfield when a clear breaks down

anyone disagree?

I was so busy working on my motorcycle this morning that I forgot to watch Hannah Montana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannah_Montana_(TV_series)). By the time I took a break, Roland Garros (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Garros_(tennis)) was on TV. Around 11 a.m., NBC was showing yesterday's match between Rafael Nadal and Novak Đoković (or Djokovic) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novak_%C4%90okovi%C4%87), and I thought about this thread. I believe that just about any one of those top-ranked tennis players would be first rate at lacrosse. Think about it.

They have the stamina. The first set between those two lasted an hour, and that was on a hot clay surface with not a speck of shade. One of Nadal's shots was timed at 199 kph, which is on the order of 120-125 mph. I think it would be fun to hand him a stick to see how fast he could throw a lacrosse ball.

Not only can he throw with power, but he could put that ball anywhere he wanted. If you said you wanted him to put a ball in a four-square inch section of a goal, he could do it. Add precision to speed, then. Further, if Nadal were a goalie, do you think you would be able to get anything past him?

It's not just upper body strength either, as he and his opponent were constantly running from side to side, and back and forth to return serves.

Watch those guys on TV today and tomorrow. Let me know what you think.

I'm not to sure guys like Reggie Bush would be that great in the pros unless the played D. They are good athletes, but their ball handles would stink. I's say any basketball or hockey players would be good at lax because of the established hand-eye coordination and game movement. Example:
Goalie-warren sapp lol
D- Brian Urlacher
D- LT
D- Wladimir Klitchko (Boxer)
M- Steve Nash
M- Dwayne Wade
M- Lebron James

A- Allen Iverson

Title says it all. What player in the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL or whatever league do you think would be a great lacrosse player.

I could see Steve Nash being a great player, he has decent height for lax and also is not selfish at all. Another guy i thought of was Jose Reyes becasue of his speed.

I am pretty sure steve nash did play lacrosse and was very good at face offs.

anyone know what i am talking about?

Unfortunately, most of the "natural athletes" in today's main stream sports didn't have a chance to play lacrosse when they were young. So I decided to compile a list of Non-lacrosse athletes who I think would do well with a stick in their hand. I believe it was the UVA coach who said he could watch a football player and decide how well they would fair on a lacrosse field. Of course, most of these guys have never held a lacrosse stick in their life so the may or may not be good at lacrosse.

Attack
Steve Nash
Kobe Bryant
Antonio Gates (on the crease)

Middies
Reggie Bush
Sidney Crosby
Lebron James
Brian Westbrook
Ed Reed

Long Stick Middie
Champ Bailey

Defense
Scott Neidermeyer
Brian Urlacher
Kevin Garnett

Goalie
Martin Brodeur

What do u guys think. If I think of someone else or someone proposes something, I'll edit this list.

i hate to sound like a fanboy or some charger bandwagoner (im not cuz ive actually liked them for years) but I think LT would be a must-have for a middie... He is able to dodge and change direction like no other. I think he would be perfect for the transition game... also, you would want to think about qb's as attackmen due to their armstrength alone (hate to say it because i cant stand the pats but Brady, and I think Palmer would be a good crease attack)

hate to say it but michael vick would have been a good attackman. He's so athletic and he has an arm too. But I can really see Steve Nash at attack too. He is so quick. If he can break someone's ankles with a basketball, imagine what he could do in lacrosse. Plus, the only flaws in his game is that he plays poor defense and he is too short for NBA. But in lacrosse, those wudn't be a problem because he could play attack, and at 6'2, he is anything but a small attackman.

i know this is all a pipe dream.....and there are a lot of fun posts on here...

One beast I know that did play lax was Chris Hovan - def. tackle NFL did play his HS lax at St. Ing. in Cleveland, OH as a pole...

Chas Gessner at Brown was a dirty middie, and I know he was drafted to play TE for the Jets, but not sure what ever came of that....

On another note, a couple of years ago we had the opportunity to play a "scrimmage" at the XCEL Energy center prior to a Swarm NLL game, the Red Wings were actually out on the turf kicking around a ball - soccer - when B. Shannan came up to one of the guys with a lax stick with some of his kids and started talking to them....they talked for about 30 minutes about lax, and Shanny not only talked about playing during his days growing up, but was really a great guy and still follows the game pretty well....what a class act!!!

Funny thing about Sid the Kid, went to school at Shattuck here in MN....they did have HS lax (unfortunately for him they were dreadful), and did throw the ball around with some of the kids when he was in school there, but never did try to play...... but can you blame him????

Allen Iverson would have be a great middie, his change of direction would have been nasty, and near impossible to stick with.....

Terminator X
12-31-2007, 05:26 PM
I think Amahn Bradhshaw from the Giants could be a middie. The guys feet never stop moving and he can cut like crazy.

Devon Hester, the kick returner from the Bears, would probably make the best lacrosse player at any position except goalie. He might be the fastest guy in the NFL, have crazy moves, and was originaly a cornerback, so he can play defense too.

As someone noted earlier, Patrick Kerney - the All Pro Defensive Lineman for the Seahawks and formerly for the Falcons - went to Virginia to play lax. He had played both at the Taft School, but NE WestI football players rarely get recruited. Kerney apparently caught the UVA Lax Coach's eye at a camp in Vermont.

Kerney apparently was a gym rat, and spent lots of time in the weight room with the football players. Word got back to the football coaches that a laxer at school could outlift the linemen and outrun the backs, and Pat had to make the difficult choice to play lax, which he loved, or football, which he was better at.

The rest is history.

Nah, the wing attackmen that I picked are good enough passers that Nash's passing ability wouldn't make up for it the huge difference in quickness.

also, I think Jason Kidd would make a better middie than lsm. I can see an lsm being champ bailey, Deangelo Hall, or Ed Reed. Aggressive, fast, and freakishly quick.

I'm not really all that familiar with the LSM position, but I immediately thought basketball for good position defense, and those 3 stuck out to me as being really tough. I mean, when you are a PG getting more rebounds than anyone else on your team (Kidd), that definitely says something. Also, I would think the smaller, quicker defenders would be better off at wing defense rather than LSM.
