Pretty surprised about some of the guys that are gone, but theres only 17 spots. At his point, I'd put money on Resetarits, Rabil, Seibald, Rubeor and Danowski as finalists.

Like last year, it will go down to who plays the best in the tournament, and whose team plays the best in the tournament. The last 5 Tewaaraton winners have also won the national championship, which isn't a surprise at all: given that lacrosse is so hard to watch nationally, the championship games are the biggest chance for players to make their Tewaaraton bids. This year, I don't see this being any different, unless Danowski garners a lot of votes from the Duke lacrosse scandal. In fact, I give the inside track to Danowski, with Seibald trailing behind.

I noticed no Syracuse players are on there anymore. I was just wondering if people could be added again. like if SU made a major run and went to the finals and won. (same with any other team not SU) could players be added to the list? Also rabil seems to be doing really good now, and i wouldnt be surprised to see him in the finalists

so I guess the tewaarton trophy goes to the best player in college...but has a non-offensive player won the award before?

Rachael Baker, a defender from Princeton won it in '03. She's not exactly a guy, but yes a defensive player has won the Tewaaraton before.
If I were to make a guess, I would say Matt Danowski for two reasons. 1.) I think Duke is going to win the championship, and the winning teams best player usually (or almost definitely) wins the trophy and 2.) Danowski is the best player in college lacrosse right now.

i thought you had to be a senior to win it...
First off, to clear things up for a men, only midfielders and attackmen have won. You dont have to be a senior, Mike Powell won it sophomore and senior year. Finally your team doesn't have to win, Doug Shanahan won it for Hofstra in '01 although Hofstra didn't even play in the final. And noone will be added to this list, only 12 will be removed.

You don't HAVE to be, and neither do you have to be to win the Heisman. But it's rarely ever happened in the Heisman and hurts your chances when you're an underclassman (see Rex Grossman the year Eric Crouch won, or Matt Danowski the year Kyle Harrison won). You get serious priority. Look at the years: there's been 6 Tewaaraton trophies, and 5 were seniors. In other words, you essentially need to be, unless you are overwhelmingly qualified over the rest of the candidates.
Finally your team doesn't have to win, Doug Shanahan won it for Hofstra in '01 although Hofstra didn't even play in the final.
It isn't a set rule, but again, you essentially do need to be. Doug Shanahan won it the first year of the Tewaaraton Trophy. Things have changed since then. Ever since that happened, someone on the winning championship team has won it. It's the best way for the player to be stamped as a "difference maker" and a "clutch player". It's really the only way the entire country gets to see that player at his best. What are the odds of a player at a mediocre program in the midwest winning the trophy? There would be no way anyone could have seen the kid play. Meanwhile, EVERYONE knows the best player on the best team.
Again, the only way I see a player not on the championship team winning the trophy would be Danowski, because he has another way of getting national attention: being the captain, coach's son, and best player on the most infamous lacrosse team in the country.
I know no one thought it was a rule I was just trying to get people to keep an open mind about it, I was most surprised about McDevitt and Pittard being eliminated.

I agree that it will all depend on who shows up during the tournament. You have to be a clutch player when the chips are down to win the Tewaaraton! My money is on Mitchell... mostly because I coached him growing up :) Good luck to all who made the final 17!!!

the best player on whoever wins the national championship is most likely to win it. Rubeor for UVA, Dano for Duke, etc... No idea why Rabil is on the list considering his team's record, his low point totals and lackluster defensive play

I'm with bstewart on this one regarding Mitchell. Since he started playing in 1995, I have played with and against him over the years and have seen him develop into the player he is today. Even though the individual award would be nice, I would much rather see Cornell win the Div. I Title this year.

I'd actually pick Rubeor as the best player in college lacrosse right now OVER Danowski - Rubeor has more points in leading a younger team than Dano.

i say the one way that it wont be the player on the championship tweam... is if syracuse continues a great effort and manages to do what they have been capable of since the beginning of the season, if cuse ends up winning... clearly it will be someone else

He gets double and tripled, I never appreciated his talent until I went to a hopkins game this year (things are very different from last year) teams play him close and slide early not letting him get anything, he is a great player. Plus low point total? Are you serious he has picked it up and collected 25 points, good enough to lead hopkins and one of the highest totals for a midfield nationally even though hes probably the best defended game in and game out. IMO he is the best midfielder in the country (with the only real close comp being Seibald and Looney). Plus you have to keep in mind that Hopkins has the strongest strength of schedule nationally you have to look beyond their record to who they've lost too, their only easy opponent being Mount St Marys.
Thought I'd give an update, there are now 5 finalists, and me and the tewaaraton judges seem to be in agreement.
