During my lacrosse game yesterday me and the attackmen i was gaurding were talking about offsides calls.

The question i had was say there is 5-10 seconds left your up by one and they get the ball could you in theory send all of your attackmen down to pressure the ball. I know that the flag down would be for offsides but would it stop the game?

Question #2

Is there a rule that says you cant stand in front of the goal if your a defender? because im aloud to be in the crease so why not just stand infront of the goal with the other 2 defenders and make a wall like in soccer.

Q1 for a start it's 3 offsides...yes the penalty would come...and yes there'd be no time to do anything about it...but why would you bother?

Q2 2 players wont cover the whole goal, and someone will put a ball past you (from a good place, as your D will be effectively 2men down) and your goalie wont stand a chance as he wont see it!

This does raise a question though. If a team put 4 guys right in the goal mouth, there is nothing expressly included in the rule book to stop them. You could make a pretty solid argument for Unsportsmanlike Conduct, but a team may be able to get away with it once.

What justfies that as USC?

As for the first one, a good situation to use that would be if you were up by one, and the other team had the ball. Send all your guys not to check the ball out, but to prevent a pass that could result in a shot. But, all the other player would have to do is step out of the box or drop the ball on purpose right?

Q2:
If all players stand in the goal than the atacker has a free shoot on them. This hurts.

there is really no point to stand in the goal...plus you leave a man wide open
also....there is no point, why even bother with 5-10 seconds left

I am very confident in saying that by ILF rules (and interpretations) a deliberate breach of the rules would incur an unsportsmanlike penalty.

There is no rule to prevent the opposing side from "flooding" the goal mouth with their bodies.

Q1 - flag down slow whistle is to benefit the attack. This is one instance where (if no atttack was imminent) I would probalby blow the whistle and give the attackers a 3 man advantage for the last 10 seconds. I suspect the attackers would rather have a 3 man advantage than a 3 man disadvantage. While this is not listed as a reason to terminate the FDSW, it does follow the spirit of the rule. If the attackers were smart, they would just drop the ball and generate this result themselves.

Q2, the only rule against this is the rule of common sense. Who is going to stand in the crease and let attackers fire the ball at them point blank?
