Today I worked a series of 5/6 games with an official of my senority. A kid scores a goal in the first game and his momentum carried him into the crease just as I was whistling the goal.
The goalie's coach declared that the crease violation should negate the goal. I admitted freely that the kid violated the crease, but it was after the ball was in the goal, so it didn't matter.
My partner declared that he and a first year ref had studied the rulebook and determined beyond a shadow of a doubt that even if momentum carried a shooter into the crease after the goal was scored, and the shooter never left his feet or violated the Gait rule, the goal was no good.
Now I'm chewing bullets because I had left my rulebook on my desk. However, in the interest of calling a fair game, I consented to call the rest of the game(s) under those assumptions.
As soon as I got home, I grabbed my rulebook looking for support. Alas, I am unable to find any specific wording in the 2007 NFHS book that permits a player to enter the crease after his shot has entered the cage. The Gait rule is clearly laid out, and wording to the effect that 'no offensive player can go in the crease at any time' is there, so I can understand why someone just looking at rule 4-9-n and rule 4-20-2 can decide that post goal crease violations are prohibited and cost a goal.
Is there a rule I'm missing? Am I actually wrong?
