The rumor around Tampa is the Wesley Chapel Lacrosse Club has secured the TOC. They have wonderful new fields coming online in May.
Additionally there will be a qualifier added for Florida teams. All this was in the St. Pete newspaper.
Check out www.tampabaylacrosse.com under the Tampa Lacrosse News and the Tampa Tribe news headings. www.91spartans.com/tribeannouncement2.htm

Wesley chapel's Elite Travel Team, the Tribe, has secured the U.S. Lacrosse National Championship game (Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions) for at least the next three years. It will be played January 5/6 at WC's game fields. The Tribe will have automatic invitations for each of its age groups and will play. the ONLY Florida team guaranteed a spot in the tournament.
On the weekend of November 10th the Tribe will be hosting a sanctioned tournament for florida-based teams. The winner of this tournament will also be extended an invitation to play in the Dick's TOC as The Tribe has two automatic invitations.
The defending champions have accepted a KSE invitation to return and defend. At ndplacrosse.com read how the TOC changed one player's college dreams.
Tryouts for the Tribe are coming up May 19th and details can be found on wclacrosse.com. This is your ONLY guaranteed opportunity to play in this spotlight tournament. Pre-registrations have been very good and the tryout will be competitive.
There will be a yet to be determined roster freeze date. If you do not attend tryouts or made prior arrangements a spot on the team may not be available.
watch the wclacrosse website and click through to tribe.

Those wishing to still qualify for elite division can on November 17th in Wesley Chapel at Derek Pieper Cup.
How about a roll call of who is coming to TOC and not playing in the Elite level?

No, the Sunshine Cup is not one of the qualifying tournaments.
A list of the qualifying events can be found at the bottom of http://www.ndplacrosse.com/content/content.aspx?PID=17

Neither Team Florida or Tampa Fire u19s are entered into Derek Pieper qualifier.
Time is running out for teams to qualify. Go here to see some of the field for both tournaments: http://www.91spartans.com/tribetournaments.html
It is my gut feel that 3 teams will qualify out of the Derek Pieper. The host Tribe and two others.
The TOC has some top notch teams already commited to playing. 2 Canadian and one No Cali.

There will be three teams from the Derek Pieper Tournament given invitations to the TOC. The host team, tournament winner and a tournament director's pick.
The TOC is blowing up with 6 new teams on their web site this week.

Partagas,
How many U19 teams are coming to the Derek Pieper Tournament at this point?
Partagas
09-21-2007, 03:08 PM
Storm, Makos, Moonfish, Team Palmetto from South Carloina, 2 from FLC, Tribe and 2 more who escape my memory at the moment from south florida.
The tribe and 2 others will get bids. The division winner and a tournement directors choice. Tribe could add a second time under its umbrella if we added about 8 players. Players need to be contacting me quickly because we will be holding our roster soon.
I will take commitments for teams to Derek Pieper cup a bit longer. Website is down today as I am working on roster and waiver forms.
The U15 group looks to have some awesome matchups too. FLc, Fire, Makos, Atlanta Breakaway, Orlando Huskies and Jupiter Riptide at moment. I'm looking for two more teams to fill out that bracket.
The actual TOC Elite division is blowing up. Our 10 fields may be too few as we are seeing California, Canada, Michigan and New York teams coming in quickly. the web site just shows a sampling of top teams.
I am not at liberty to divulge any of the coaches who will be present but some big names.
Email me through this site or at tribelacrosse@verizon.net.

The tournament field is starting to take good shape. Anyone care to start posting their thoughts on how it might play out?
The host team has dropped down into the Rising Stars and has to be considered there as a home favorite.
With the Elite teams I am laregely unfamiliar with most the teams but have heard a lot of good about the CT Hurricanes if they have kept the team together.

The fields are in perfect condition. Cut nice and short and very lush and fast. We been preparing them. 10 fields in total.
There will be many coaches in attendance. I am not allowed to say who yet though.

I read the article. So, the answer is there are only 4 teams in the Rising Stars division. Seems hardly worth the trip from St. Louis or chicago.

PA Dukes are not playing. Where did they qualify?
Those teams from St Louis/Chicago have other teams playing in the Elite bracket which would seem to make it easier to justify the trip

I'm not sure if they have any other JV teams lined up and just not public yet or not. The JV teams do get access to the coaches so it isn't all in vain. Frankly from personal experince just being around the event is quite worthwhile. I was instrumental in getting it at the location but relocated to Cali. I am returning to be apart of the event just to soak up the atmosphere.

The Brackets are now up on the NDP website. Wow! This is a tough field of teams. I will stick with my earlier prediction that the Cup goes back to Canada.
The weather could be a factor in favor of the Florida teams if the heat and humidity drop in. Nothing like 85 degrees with 85 percent humidity. Or dressing for a 40 degree game start and finishing the game at 85 degrees.
Good Luck all.

Hey Coach
Are the Moonfish taking the Tribe's place in Pool 1 as originally discussed or are the Tribe playing in the Elite Bracket after all?
Partagas
12-18-2007, 05:33 PM
The Tribe will be fielding U19 and U17 teams made up of season-long Tribe players within their proper age bracket. Some of the roster spots will be players who competed on other clubs a portion of the year to make two complete squads. I don't know the actual breakdown of who is who. Some may have come from the Warrior HS team as well.

I truly believe that the Connecticut Hurricanes will sweep the competition. With 10 DI recruits, 6 DIII and 4 DII, they dominate any playing field. They'll be missing their star defenseman CJ Costabile, a Duke recruit who has U-19 Team USA duties that he must fulfill. Still without Costabile the Hurricanes' the roster is one of the strongest in the nation. No doubt these guys will go deep in the TOC.

Behind an incredible goaltending performance from Sacred Heart-bound, Robert Bazlen, Arizona took Connecticut to the wire. A goal with 2 seconds to play gave the Hurricaines a 3-2 victory.
Connecticut has sense moved on to the Elite 8 along with New West, Edge Sr., Edge Jr., both Road Hawks teams, HeadStrong (PA) and a very surprising Team Carolina who beat Edge Sr. in the first game of the day by one goal.
The 9th place bracket holds AZ vs. LB3 and Green Turtle vs. Illinois.

Ya they did I was there they beat a team from PA called headstrong. It was close the first half but then the second half New Westminster had control of the ball most of the time. Overall it was a great game with only a two goal lead. The final I think was 5-7 I can't really remember.

Have it on my desk here at RB. 44 is wanting to return next year to play the tourney with the Tribe or bring a Cali team to compete. I think he has two more warrior practices before heading west and becoming a Shark.
I believe the tourney was exceptional from all aspects. It exceeded my expectations when I brought the tourney to Tampa and formed the Tribe (especially the U17s). In airport last night I bumped into a couple teams ready to come back as well.

Can't wait to get my hands on that IL issue! That group from New West has always been strong, hats off to coach Ivan Tuura. I am sure he got some help from Daryl Digby and Steve Goodwin. It has opened some eyes here on the left coast of Canada. Many in Coquitlam and Victoria were a little surprised. The same New West team, give or take a player or two, lost to Claremont (Victoria) a few weeks back in Darren Reisig's High School tournament. Also, the Coquitlam U-16 team defeated the same New West team (again with a slightly different roster) at a tournament in Seatle a few weeks back. New West must have really put it all together, good for them. Still, it makes it hard to believe as I posted on a different thread here a few months back, why did so few west coasters make the Canada U-19 team? It looks like something like 13 Edge players made it yet they couldn't even make the finals? Did all the Edge players go to Florida? Whatever, looking forward to the Worlds in July. I just hope that Canada performs well. Maybe we should see if New West, Coquitlam, and Victoria can somehow form a new country and get in! they might have a real shot at winning it!

First game with Tribe was only a 2 point game. I will say you all did look good though. I think the difference was you all knew the system you were running and the Tribe did not; some of Tribe weak and small players were on field too much with some of stronger players were kept on sideline too much and you were a much deeper team in talent.
