What is the penalty (if any) for a team putting 2 players with the same number in the game at the same time, or at different times?

High School rulings please.

Well, i dont think there is because, yesterday we had a kid who forgot his jersey. So they coach just pulled one of of his bag, and it was the same number as mine, and there was no penelty

as an additional piece to this, is there going to be a different interpretation if one of the players is a goalie?

BTW.: In field Hockey if such a Thing ocures we put soem Tape on the Jersy to make the number diffrent (e.g. |13 to make it 113 in stead of 13)
would this be leagal?

I don't see why not, and that is a great solution to the issue!

In NFHS it's one of those rules-that-have-no-consequences-listed

"Duplicate numbers on jerseys shall not be worn."

No mention of penalty, no penalty, etc.

Although I don't have a NFHS rule book, it probably says the same thing as Section 1, Rule 6 (Technical Fouls) in the NCAA rule book. The section states that, "Technical fouls are those of a less serious nature than personal fouls, and include all violations of the rules of the game except those specifically listed as personal or expulsion fouls under Rule 5."

If the NFHS rule book states that players cannot wear the same number and they do, that is a violation of the "the rules of the game'. If it was not a rule, it would not be in the rulebook.

There are two simple solutions that can be used to get the player onto the field. Either turn the jersey inside out or give the jersey to the goalie. While the latter is still a technical violation it does not present a problem with calling out the numbers of players who have to be covered, etc..
