what ive heard is that its going to be a joke for those who didnt try out for the fire

DUB-C

It could be. No one can agrue the Fire doesn't have 75% of the top talent. The remaining talent won't be able to compete head-to-head in 07 with Fire.

If what I read on Tampabaylacrosse is right about the US Lacrosse Tournament of Champions. They get an automatic invitation to the tournament. Playing in the top HS tournament in US is not a joke for any team - even a bad one.

Isn't Fire going to Gettysburg to try to earn an invitation to that tournament?

GottaBeRed

One of the major differences between Tribe and Fire is that Tribe will field teams at the U-11 and U-13 levels in addition to the higher brackets.

Tribe wasn't available when Fire held tryouts. The new 143 arce Wesley Chapel District Park names WCAA as the host organization and Tribe will be the only competitive lacrosse program to be able to call this their "home" facility.

And since Fire has a large contingent of Warriors this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see a significant number of players return to the fold next season.

www.wclacrosse.com

One of the other factors to consider is that WCAA/Tribe will also host a play-in tournament at their new facility for Florida teams.

Good team or bad team, the Tribe is the most powerful team in florida with the two tournament spots in Dick's TOC. Wow.

what about south florida select

GottaBeRed
04-29-2007, 09:10 AM
From what I understand: South Florida Select will have to "play-in" one of the various tournaments, same as Fire. Tribe is granted an automatic "bye" for the preliminary tournaments and is granted a bearth for a team as host organization for the Tournament of Champions.

does tribe even have a u-19 this year? if not whos gonna have the TOC bid?

Partagas

Here's scope I can share. Tribe will be host club and rights holder of the TOC. It is for for multiple years. TOC has 2 levels of play. Both are HS age group. Seniors graduating in May can't play in this years TOC. Tribe will play in the TOC at one of the two levels. The Tribe will host a "Florida play-in" tournament for the second spot. No date has been set yet. I will invite all florida club teams to compete for that 2nd spot. We are working to make this florida play-in the Derek Pieper Memorial Cup - not finalized as of yet.

It is a personal decision as to where each of you play this year. I understand the tribe has come into the picture very late and many of you have committed for this year. Your problem is that existing team tryouts are in fall and Tribe is in May. TOC qualifiers are in summer and the TOC is in January. It is a tough decision for everyone if or when to switch. Year 1 Tribe will allow players to be on another team but I hear other teams are not allowing the same. We will work with the other local clubs if asked to some degree.

Pre-registrations show enough players to field a U17 only and a U17/U19 mixed team with some players dual rostered. We know this team will not be the best local team but we are committed to providing them the benefits we promised in regards to playing and recruiting. The TOC is part of that.

I am the main organizer and not coaching. (nor am I remotely qualified to coach an elite team). Coaches will be announced shortly with bios available.

Year 1 will be tough but it will not be a joke. The TOC is US Lacrosse's premier HS event. The Tribe will be there playing on their home fields. I hope you all will join us or your team makes it through by play-in. There will be at least two florida teams playing in january - thanks to the tribe landing this tournament. It will be an exciting but bumpy ride.

Email me with any questions.

Well, I'm trying out for the Tribe U-17 and i guess U-19 Goalie, since Danny is w/ the Fire and really, I can't think of any other goalies who will try out. This will be a building year, but it will be a great experience for us Floridian lax players who want to go to college and play lacrosse, to get looked at by top colleges.

x-cross posted

Wesley chapel's Elite Travel Team, the Tribe, has secured the U.S. Lacrosse National Championship game (Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions) for at least the next three years. It will be played January 5/6 at WC's game fields. The Tribe will have automatic invitations for each of its age groups and will play. the ONLY Florida team guaranteed a spot in the tournament.

On the weekend of November 10th the Tribe will be hosting a sanctioned tournament for florida-based teams. The winner of this tournament will also be extended an invitation to play in the Dick's TOC as The Tribe has two automatic invitations.

The defending champions have accepted a KSE invitation to return and defend. At ndplacrosse.com read how the TOC changed one player's college dreams.

Tryouts for the Tribe are coming up May 19th and details can be found on wclacrosse.com. This is your ONLY guaranteed opportunity to play in this spotlight tournament. Pre-registrations have been very good and the tryout will be competitive.

There will be a yet to be determined roster freeze date. If you do not attend tryouts or made prior arrangements a spot on the team may not be available.

Partagas

Gentlemen,

The Tribe hasn't even had its first practice yet. I am just now finalizing rosters for U11/U13 and split squad U17, U19 teams. Coach Tom F. and I will begin working on playing schedules in the next week or so.

Our focus will be on preparing for our tournaments and addressing those coaches who have called or emailed and asked to play. The only sure face-to-face at this moment is if the Fire play in the Derek Pieper Memorial Cup in November or can qualify for the Dick's TOC. I do not know a game schedule because one doesn't exist yet. My hopes will be to schedule a U17 and a u19 game or two.

I have my ideas who DUB-C is but it is meaningless. He isn't on either team and may not be at WCAA (although I think on JV squad).

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer. See me at Shooter's if you have any other questions or email me at tribelacrosse@verizon.net

Alright... and just a little warning that the date set now for the D.P Memorial Tourney is the same day as a tourney over at Palm Coast that most FL elite teams will be at...

Partagas
05-30-2007, 10:37 AM
The DP Tournament date will change due to a field conflict. What ever it changes to something will be going on somewhere.

Teams will just have to decide if the Dick's TOC is important to them or not. The TOC is during open recruiting and I've been told that the commitment of college coaches is already +20.

for every 8 teams in the DP we get to provide 1 inivitation. So if 8 teams play the winner goes, if 16 play 1st and 2nd go. The Tribe's invitation is set and doesn't count against these.

For other age groups you can go as open registration IF you play in a qualifier someplace (www.ndplacrosse.com shows accepted qualifiers). The atmosphere of an international tournament can't be matched. Every florida team should either try to qualify for the elite level or play the DP to just participate in the TOC weekend in the rising stars divisions.

It would be interesting to see Plant and Frredom play as teams to see how they stack up against the competition. I think they could show well.

lax4life5555
05-30-2007, 12:04 PM
what do you mean plant and freedom play? Can teams enter into tournaments as teams and play against travel teams? If so, what tourny are you talkin about? details?

Partagas
05-30-2007, 03:06 PM
Club teams have the same standing to play in any club tournament as does a travel club team. All the players need to be members of US Lacrosse and an offical roster submitted to the tournament director. Programs that are in-school FHSAA would need to play outside the school umbrella as a club team but can as well.

Wesley Chapel is hosting the Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions in January (U.S. Lacrosse's club national championship). This is an invitational tournament. In November Wesley Chapel is hosting the Derek Pieper Memorial cup which is a qualification tournament for the Dick's TOC. Go to www.ndplacrosse.com for more information on the Dick's TOC or email me at tribelacrosse@verizon.net for more information on the DP Cup.

My comment was an observation that both school club teams were very good. Some of the teams in the Dick's are not strictly travel teams but more like the WCAA Warriors. It would be interesting.

lax4life5555

what about the question I stated earlier?
"if the fire loses in their tournament, then could freedom, plant, and jesuit combine a team of their best players to play in the tourny? basically create their own little all star team?"

Partagas
05-31-2007, 03:20 PM
Yes, if this allstar team plays and wins a qualifier it can play in the HS elite for the national championship. Or if it just plays in a qualifier it can play in the JV rising stars regardless of finish position if there are no seniors and few juniors (u17 team).

If you play on the Fire you better examine your team rules though. they may prohibit you playing on any other team. I say "may" because I do not know for sure what you may have signed.

Regardless any team except Edgewater (defending champions) and Tampa Tribe (Host team) have to play in a qualifier to play a rising star division or win to play in Elite division.

Over this weekend I hope to redo Tribe website and include information on local qualifier november 10th which should be the easiest to get into unless northern teams use it as a second chance. For every 8 teams playing in the qualifier 1 team will get an invitation to TOC. (If 16 teams then 2 teams)

WClax17

Gettysburg

Partagas
06-01-2007, 08:16 AM
Gettysburg is correct. From last year's turn out if they play the Elite grouping and win they will get an invitation for that team. If the U17 play they can register as well regardless of how well they do. otherwise they still need to play in a qualifier.

If the elite grouping has 16 teams the top 2 will get invitations. Or all the teams finishing ahead of them decline the invitation.

Good Luck, I'd like to see the TOC stacked with florida teams. Great stuff for florida players.

One soul.

One heritage.

One community.

One family.

One TRIBE.

Every player, coach and organization plays a vital role in lacrosse's growth in our area. Great rivalries are part and parcel - - - The Fire and the TRIBE are no exception. Both squads can talk smack all they want; I just hope they remember to bring their "A" games in January.
