Florida Possums??

Have any of yall played on the Florida Possums.....I'm thinking about playing, my coach played and said i should try out......anyone have any input on if i should play.....wat is it like.......does it help?

The Possums will be fielding several different teams this year including;

U19 Elite (their top team)
U19 Select
U17 Elite
U17 Select
U15 Elite

This year they also will have regionally based teams for the Jacksonville area for U19 (Elite & Select) & U17 (Elite & Select) but the tryouts were this past weekend.

Will it help your game? Absolutely. You will be playing with the best players from your area and against better competition.

The main Possums teams are having tryouts in the Orlando area this Saturday, May 5th. These are the best teams to play for if you are interested in playing in college (see note below). They will be significantly better than the regional teams in Jax, and therefore will be the ones that recieve the most attention at tournaments (all of the Possums teams are scheduled for the same tournaments this year, so the U19 Elite (the Orlando team) will draw the greatest interest from any colleges coaches. In other states travel teams will bring several teams to the same tournament, but Florida is not yet established enough to draw interest except in it's top team. In time that will change.

Note: The best travel team that represents Florida is actually Team Florida which last year only played in the Hotbeds tourney in Delaware. This year, they are adding a fall tourney. This team is coached by Coach Harkins (FSU), Coach Goldberg (SA, Possums, & South Florida Select), and Coach West (Matanzas, Possums). The tryouts are May 19 & 20 in Jupiter, but were by invititation only and required a coaches recommendation to be considered. This is the best of the best in Florida.

the Possums are a great team. i tried out a few years ago but didnt make the team cuz there was bout 50 people trying out for 6 spots. i know the coach that started it Tom West. he use to be my high school coach. all the coaches they have for the Possums r great coaches. they even have college coaches come in to run practice. u should deff try out next time they have a team.

they are pretty good, we played them with our team illinois team at the gait cup in gettysburg last year and lost to them twice, and we both beat baltimore redshirts teams.

I was at a camp with some of them.... In NC..... i know doesnt make sense. They are extremely good. Im only 14 and am a rising freshman but they put me on the high school part of the camp. a defense man was the only possum wearing his helmet though but he was very good.

The Possums are a really good team. Especially their U-19 Orlando teams. I played lacrosse in Orlando before the possums were even around. Anywhos, my good friend Brain plays on the U-17 Elite team. He enjoys it. So if you really areconsidering trying out do it.

I, personally, play for the TampaBay Fire. We have U-19, U-17, U-15, and U-13 Elite teams. We also play at some great tournaments and usually play the Possums on the road several times. Another great club lacrosse team.

But, if you can, with it being invite only, tryout for Team Florida, I would highly suggest it. It is oneof the best things you can do to help get noticed by coaches. They play at some of the best of the best nation's tournaments with the best of the best national club lacrosse teams.

Huh, the kid on my team said there was a U-15 select. You got some stiff compition for goalie though, I saw the U-15 goalie at a camp, he's pretty good. Some said something about a U-13 team also, how come its not on the site?

Yeah so as a sophomore, I played on my teams JV squad. In a summer tournament, I scored 6 goals against the U-17 Elite Possums on my 8th, 9th, and 10th grade team and drew about 5 penalties from them. The kids on the team are jacked, probably football players from my estimation. They liked to hit and could shoot hard, but didn't really know how to play. Good athletes, mediocre lacrosse players.

We just played the Possums at the Boca Blast, for the u15, u13, and u11 teams.. they weren't so hot. The highschool elite team was very good, but as far as the other ones I wasn't so impressed, we only played the Orlando teams, u13 we won by more than 7, and u15 we won by only one, however are team is not very amazing and we played pretty poorly ( Palm Beach Select ) anyone in here that I played against?

We (Orlando U15 elite) went 1-2.
We lost to Tampa Fire 3-1. We beat South Beach Select 12-4. And lost to South Beach Select "A" team 12-2 (not sure what really happened that game, but those kids were good, I assume most of them are feeding into St. Andrews by the Scots gear they had on).
We have a tourney next week at Lake Sylvan, hope we do better there.
Our U17 elite team went 4-0, there good.

The South Florida "A" team you lost team is good, we beat them once lost once, one of their 2 top players, left our team to play for them. He wore a St. A's helmet, cause his broke the day before tourney, there was about 3 or 4 other St. A's players on South Fl. "A" 1 of which is also very very good, and the other who is really good also.

The Tampa Fire were not good, at all, we beat them about 13-4 or something..

U 15 Fire lost 1 game to the Palm Beach Select in one of our worst games of the season. We also beat South Florida Select (7-4) and Possums (4-1) That was the most goals we lost by all year. Our other two losses was by one and 2 goals to a Georgia and South Carolina Team (Cyclones). I would like to play you guys again in a future tourney

Was that at Bagataway? The Cyclones and Team Georgia got destroyed in that tourney.

Played orlando, but i saw the Jax. The Jax's jerseys were ugly.

The Vemons suck....Im so glad I got a CPX instead. As for Jax's jerseys, they used to ones we use, but for this tourney the gave us our "sponsers" penny, but our coach refused to let us wear them (thank god, were the possums not the jax lax's).
Oviedo, what team were you on at Lake Sylvian?

For our game vs Jax possums, we were all hyped up to beat them, then they tell us there mixing up the teams. I was so pissed I wanted bragging rights on the way home =(
