I'm a freshman this season, and my coach thought I was good enough for varsity. So he brought me up, and I was 2nd sting LSM for our preseason scrimmages. Then, our captain (who is the starter at LSM) found out that our 2nd quarter grades determined whether or not you can play for the first couple of games. And since he only had like a 1.4 GPA, I became the starter. Once he became eligible again, he was the starter and I was back to 2nd string. My question is, when I try to get recruited by colleges in a few years, would I be allowed to say I was a "4 year varsity starter"?

i would assume so. starting atleast one game qualifies i suppose. then again its wasnt based on skill level over the competition. i would ask your AD or whoever is in charge of college stuff at your school

It depends...in my eyes I would say no...a varsity starter in my eyes is someone who is a everyday starter, not someone who took someones spot who couldnt play and then lost their spot when that player returned. I would say no, but dont worry your only a frosh buddy
I don't think they're going to check up on something like that, and if they do, explain your situation.

honestly scouts arent going to care that much whether or not u started every single varsity game as a freshman. the more important thing is that ur a 4 yr varsity letterman

i dont want to hijack this thread or anything, but my thoughts are a little along these lines and i dont want to start my own thread...
i am not on the first line of middies, but i do start the game by facing off. if i win and we go to offense i come off for the other guy who is actually on first line. but if i lose and we go to defense, i basically just play with the first line until my line comes out, then i go off with them. would i be considered starting varsity, and could i say 4-year varsity starter and be legit? i think so.
but to you, stamford...i think yes, you should be able to say you are a 4-year starter.

Thanks for the help guys.
jaxjunkie3: Why would it matter how good the teams are? Most of them weren't great (compared to the rest of the FCIAC, all of them but Trinity beat us) except for Brien McMahon
the next 'one': You are most definitely a starter

Do you play for westhill or stamford? I know Stamford doesn't have a team in CONNY, so who did you play for in youth, if anyone at all?

What about this...
A lot of teams have an LSM and a defensive middie on the wings on faceoffs to start the game, and then bring offensive players out of the box when they've got possession on O. So would you consider the player first out the box a starter? He doesn't start, per se, but it's like he's an offensive starter.
If not, I know that some teams' best players can't say that they start.

do you go out for the pre-game lineup?....then you're a starter.....

In my opinion that would be the determining factor. If your coach lists you as the starter for that particular game, then he thinks your the starter.

stamford dman, I'm also a freshman starting varsity lsm. My coach is all about grades first, ability second. A couple seniors on my team just forgot to bring their report cards to practice and sat the first half of the next game. A 1.4 gpa is a joke!! No school with serious lax scholarshp money would even look at a kid with under 3.0. Lax is mainstream now, take advantage of your opportunity to be noticed young, kick *** with grades. There are tons of good lax players out there...be the smartest good lax player out there! If you high school sucks, get on a good club team that plays some of the major recruiting tourneys... you got 3 years to get noticed. By the way, my club team coach demands a 2.9 or better gpa or you're out!!!
