I am going to be running a summer box league for high school kids in Southern California. As you might guess, we do not have a local store to get shin/leg guards. I need advice and suggestions. I don't need pro level stuff, but I would error on the more protective side to protect me and the other goalies. I do have a limited budget.

Max Lax?
Rebel Pros?
Rebel Club?
Boddam?
Stx Pro?

What do you canadians actual wear in adult rec leagues?

I would stay away from the Rebel Club shin pads. Sure they may be cheaper, but they will not last as long and they are not as protective.

I have used each one listed except for Boddam. Out of that list, I would highly recommend the Rebel Pro (what I currently use) or MaxLax MXSH-2005 shin pads for protection and size. If you want protection, you may have to sacrifice some extra $$$ either way you go.

their also the least durable

rebel clubs will suffice, their protective and somewhat cheap.its what most houseleagues use.

How can you possibley qualify that statement, no minor teams or junior A teams have even played a regular season game yet and they are new for this year and you say they aren't durable? Do you wear them and they wore out in try-outs?

In 1 game an 2 tryouts I saw three break. All on the knee. 2 were worn by the back up on the Green Gaels zach higgins(who I believe is now wearing rebels) and the other to a kid on the saints.IMO if a shin cant lastm through a set of junior try outs its not good quality.

I still dont understand why you try to call me on every statement I make, If I didnt have reason for posting it I wouldnt.

Try looking into the Maxlax 1000s. Probably the best value for your buck. Durable from what I've seen (I know a guy who has used the same set for about 10 years), great protection, very light, and won't hurt that fixed budget. Although the 2005s are the Cadillac of shin guards...

Yo George!

To the OP: For a rec. league you could save yourself a few bucks. The 1000's will be more than adequate. If money is not an issue the 2005's (just a little more $) are bigger and more protective. The exchange rate sucks right now if your ordering from the US and you may have to pay a customs fee + shipping. It adds up.

i agree, i have seen alot of people with the new ones have them break withing weeks of getting them, and all at the knee, maybe it will be fixed with next generations to come or maybe its just one of those things, rivits and bolts come undone all the time but it is still no excuse. like its not that hard to use a locknut or loctite

We use RBK, Baur, or Nike from our local hockey shop - Behind the Mask here in Phoenix. The Hockey chest protectors are also the same as used in box - and you can usually get a better deal because a hockey shop sells more and has better selection. We run youth and adult leagues . . .

Call Randy Exelby and tell him we sent you . . .
