I am considering joining the Marine Corps after high school, but was just curious if when Im at the recruiters will they ask me about previous drug use?
The marines recruiter told me they didn't care if I did drugs while I was in the marines, as long as I was only 'experimenting'. I don't think it will be a big deal.

So you can experiment...? I dont really do that, I used to smoke until I realized its really not that good for me, although its not that bad either I really gotta start focusing on school and athletics. I just wanted to be sure I couldnt get turned down for that. But if they ask me do I just say yes I have done it?

I would be open and honest. They cant hold you back for that.

The marine corps tend to be a bit stricter in terms of drug usage than other branches. My dad served for a while as the drug enforcement officer at camp pendleton, and for active duty its a big deal. If, however, you're talking about smoking pot once or twice in the past, they wont consider it as big a deal. Be sure to disclose it however, put everything on the table at once.
Oh, and excellent choice in terms of service branches! Semper fi.

I don't know what the USMC's policy is.
Obviously if you are a total crackhead, chances are they'd turn you down. However if you did it once in your junior year of HS to experiment I think thats a totally different situation.
Down here in Aus until recently they had a zero tolerance policy on past drug use.
However I think it was more like "Have you ever used an illegal substance (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)?"
keep that in mind.

I had a friend who smoked pot regularly and was planning on enlisting, he told the recruiter as much, and he said "oh, we have ways around that." They wont want to reject you, trust me, a few tokes isnt going to boot you. And there is always the Army

How will they ever know about your previous drug use? If you are no longer a user and haven't been for some time there will no longer be any evidence or traces of drugs in your system and if u haven't been a total addict there isn't going to be any other evidence of use so i can't see how they could turn you down as long as you have stopped using for a decent amount of time and your habit hasn't affected you in any adverse manner.

because they ask you and if you can't tell the truth about that (to recruiters who aren't going to have you arrested), then you shouldn't be serving in the military, where trust and teamwork are incredibly important.

Yeah i bet you be alright getting into the marines. But i wouldn't do it while active with them. The marines will take anyone it's the rangers that you need to be good in.

yeah, i'd like to challenge that about the Marine Corps recruiting. If anything, in my experience, they are the most annoying. Not trying to bag on them, i'm going to be doing NROTC to lead Marines, but the couple of enlistment recruiters i've dealed with have been nothing but pains. The others (Navy, Army, Air Force...) only talked to me once, and when i told them that i was doing NROTC, they told me thanks and never pushed it again. The Marine guy calls me about every other week...
From what i've heard, the marines really don't care if you do drugs...As long as you can do your job properly.

Talk to a recruiter... not a bunch of teenagers and listening to stories starting off with "... from what I heard..."

the army tries to recruit us at school, they set up a rock climbing wall and we have to give our name and address to climb it, then we 40 pamphlets in the mail the next week

I think I would have a hard time not laughing if that happened to me. I assume it's supposed to psyche you out or something?

As long as your not a current or future user your fine. However if you test positive, or have a little joint at your "going away party" or whatever you will screw yourself over. So if your really interested in joining, stop now, let them know the last date, and they'll schedule you accordingly. And defiantly stay away until you've served your contract. One of the biggest mistakes is starting again after you pass that first test, then you get tested at your training and you get kicked out. So defiantly wait until your done with boot camp and everything else before you even think about using again.
