sweet man. I got recruited by them this past summer, but I already signed with a JuCo team, but I might head there later on in my career. One piece of advice. Enjoy the weather, because coming from texas and then going up that way, the weather flat out sucks. I think today it was in the 50's and its May for cryin out loud.

Loads of guys from the Houston area are going to play up at Hendrix next year. The beautiful thing is that it's a first-year program, so they'll have the opportunity to start as freshman and play all four years.

Stay in Texas and play club ball. If you aren't sure that you'd want to go play lacrosse, I personally don't think its worth sacrificing everything else for that risk.

Well, what is your purpose for going to college? A degree or lacrosse?
If you're going to get an education for a job outside of lacrosse - then go where you you'll get playing time. That way you can enjoy the sport you love and get to play it while getting your degree :)

05-10-2007, 04:17 PM
As good as denver typically is, in my opinion teams like Hopkins, UVA and Maryland are on a totally different level than even denver. As impressive as playing for a top 25 team like denver is, I think someone from texas is lucky to be playing for denver. Maybe in the coming years Texas will have the lacrosse players who are good enough to play for UVA, Hopkins and Maryland.

Hendrix is pretty gay-friendly. If you're homophobic, you might as well stay in Texas, because most of the schools that play good lax are pretty liberal, or at least socially tolerant.

It's not that there's more gays, its just that the school and student body is more accepting of them, so the small minority of the population that is gay isn't afraid to openly admit it. They have the benefit of not being stigmatized at the school like at other southern schools. Pretty much all Northern schools are just as open as Hendrix is; Hendrix is just an oddity in the south.

05-11-2007, 11:52 PM
hahhahaha man you are so wrong when i visited hendrix there was tolerance for gays.. but the gay population was about 6 people out of 1100 maybe... if you are thinking of the primarly gay college for D3 it would be Oberlin College in Ohio 47% homosexual and that is no joke...

OK, as a parent that has followed schools both for my job and the fact my son is a graduating senior, I know about Oberlin and Hendrix. Yes, if you are open to people expressing themselves in other ways than what the religious right dictates to us, then Oberlin and Hendrix are excellent schools. I think the opportunities that Hendrix offers is excellent particularly if you want to play lacrosse. Have talked to the coach and I think you guys will get a great lacrosse training. Personally think Navy style of play is exciting and that is where he cut his coaching teeth.
Those that question D2 vs D3, depends where you go. Yes I expect there are D3 teams that will beat D2 teams. Denison beat a D1 team in a scrimmage so it is not particularly clear, unlike football. My suggestion is get to the best school you can, maybe with money if that plays into your decision, and play lacrosse for fun. D2 can give you athletic money, but you might find some general funds money from D3 schools from other reasons than lacrosse, although lacrosse can help. My son had money offered from an Ohio D3 as a diversity candidate. No, not color, he was from Texas, played lacrosse and band, and his language was signing.
My suggestion, best school that gives you an opportunity to play lacrosse. THen have fun and get a great education. Lets not knock great schools because of bad 4th party and unsubstantiated opinion.

how did you get letters and contact from coaches if they cant contact you before the July 1st that preceeds yours senior year?
Queens is pretty good and the weather in North Carolina isn't bad. Rollins doesn't give any athletic scholarships and the tuition is pretty high.
Denison is in a good area. I used to live near Granville when I was younger and Columbus isn't that far away. Winter still sucks there but its nothin like Western and Central new york area.

I completely agree with what you're saying, but the schools you look at should also have what you wan't in terms of majors. Some schools aren't known as "prestigous" but they can have great degree programs.
jimd619
05-14-2007, 09:27 PM
Peteylax, excellent point that your goal should be toward your degree and a school can have a great major program and not have the prestige. That is very true.
But on the other side. If you are not sure about your information, don't pass on hearsay like Hendrix so gay. I read what you said and you implied you had inside knowledge. Just a word of advice, your word is your bond. People will believe you until you say your first lie. You cannot take back what you say. I am sure you meant well, but ever have someone meanly spread lies about you? Without checking your sources, you just participated in spreading such a lie. No biggy here. But be careful, thanks.

its a decent but not great school. i visited it and really if you don't make the team there you might not like it. there's not much to do because everything is so far away. The school plans trips to ocean city and baltimore every week but they fill up quickly so a lot of the times you don't get to go on the trip. The city itself really seemed to not like the kids at the school but then again the people of the city seemed like northern rednecks. Its got really great cafeteria food and has received some of top recognition for it and if you like small schools its really good for you.

I was gonna be going to T99 but it's too expensive for just two days (400 bucks is a little much), but I'm still going to New England Top 150
I'm also going to be visiting a few schools over summer and maybe setting up times to talk with the coaches. Oh and working your but off to get better too.

Haha, I can't believe someone would actually name their kid that.
Also, it's cool there's another Hendrix kid on here. Though the competition for the starting goalie spot is going to be ridiculous. If I'm 3rd or 4th on the depth chart, though, I might try FOGO or D-mid, depending on how we look there.

It doesnt matter what kind of mesh i use. If your an offensive player or d-pole, i will stop everything you have in your arsenal of shots.Plus, whomever this is dissing on the mesh must be hacked because he couldnt score on me at all.

Service Academy grads have a 5 year active duty commitment after graduation. plus 3 more years in the reserves (active or in active).
Wasn't there twins from Plano going to West Point after completing a year at West Point Prep (HS 2006 grads)....Heard good things about them.....
yeah the palesky brothers (nick and thomas) both went to USMAPS, which is the Army Prep school, and they will be attending West Point this coming season.

You texas guys are talking about D2 teams. Colt Power is by far the best goalie in Texas, Hollis Meyer was solid too and Lemos was good before he got hurt. Zarate wasn't even the best goalie in central but you guys are drooling over him. Why is it this year D2 teams seem to be more heavily recruited? Hendrix, Fontbonne etc recruited what seems to be exclusively D2 this doesn't make sense to me

I wouldn't say D2 is more heavily recruited - it just depends on the college.
There are excellent players in the D2 programs. The top D2 players are just as good as D1 players, but don't have the opportunity to play for a D1 team.
Colleges are recognizing that talent can be found in both levels of Texas Lacraosse.
That's not a bad thing - it shows that Texas is a hotbed of good players.

hendrix is D3 man as is fontbonne.. D3 is also a bigger league than both D1 and D2.. i say go D1 if you can and if not go D3 team like salisbury could easily beat some of the lower end D1

2 other big texas recruits:
Colt Power, current Episcopal Dallas goalie committed to Notre Dame about a month ago I think. I'm not in the least bit surprised in that he literally single-handedly won the DI State Championship game for Episcopal. Here is his westsidelax.com link: http://westsidelax.com/index.php?id=185,3194,0,0,1,0
Another is former Episcopal Dallas attackman Thomas Wood who committed to North Carolina. I was digging through some old Inside Lacrosse stuff and found an article on him dated back to early June (link below). Although he and his family moved to Virginia this past year I personally still consider him a fellow Texan and if he still lived in Dallas would probably be one of the most hyped recruits from our state in a long time.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and it's there:

Congrats on Nazareth man. I went up to some random camp in NH and met the coach from there. He is a pretty cool guy. Have fun.
