This is somewhat of a copy of the texas thread posted earlier, but for all you florida players out there, are you playing college lax, and if so where? also, if you got recruited by anyone post it, or if you know anyone who got recruited, post it.

So was this at a practice or a game or a dream....?

theres no way...no one even respects western florida lax...your highest ranked team on the west is what? #345 in the state?

Well thats not the same reason I was thinking but very true....The last and I believe only Florida player to goto Duke was someone from Gulliver Prep and I do not think Syracuse has ever had a Florida player.

actually, syracuse currently has a player from florida. he went to st.edwards last year, and walked on as a midfielder.

One explanation may be that a 'Cuse Lax 3 varsity alum is an asst. coach at BC. The Duke scouting would be a complete surprise, but the 'Cuse thing is plausible...plus a kid last year took a invited visit to Ithica....as I recall. Turned down a deal to stay in State, but not play LAX.
The noted face off player is a bit of a prodigy. I saw one game vs. Canterbury where he won every face off I saw ( at least 10 or 11) against a very experienced player....it was amazing. No, not Long Island quality play, but as a month prior, he had never even held a stick...I was told.
SW Fla. Lax is inproving but years away from any real prospects. IMHO

no one is saying they are not improving, everyone is saying there is no way that right now they are going to duke or cuse
florida has sent some kids to good places, umass, duke, salisbury, ect., but all those kids are from fhsaa power houses, or at least really good teams, not club, esspecially not swfll
BCGoalie56
05-10-2007, 01:04 PM
im not saying he's goin anywhere...im just saying he got scouted...cause like lax spectator stated...the kid is sort of a prodigy...he had not picked up a stick until early march...and went something like 94% for face-offs on the year...I dont know the details behind it...but i wouldn't be surprised if it's because of our Syracuse coach...all I know is that at practice there was a 2 scouts...1 who said he was with Syracuse...and one who said he was with Duke...and yes, Evan Bresovsky was our player last year who turned down a deal with Ithaca and now goes to TCC and doesn't play lax.

I don't even believe that this kid is getting scouted by those teams. I lived in upstate NY and went to all the 'Cuse games as well as some Lemoyne and Cortland State, most people down here dont understand how good the kids that go to these schools are. There is no well in ____ that a kid from a club florida league that has been playing for 3 months?!?!?!?!? (are you friggin kidding me???) is going to a D1 powerhouse.

why not?.....more and more schools are recruiting "athletes"....coaches have to project into the future and maybe they heard about this kid and came and took a look....entirely plausible....
as for how long he has played; who cares? ...a close friend of mine was an outstanding athlete in high school but didn't play lacrosse even though we both lived in Baltimore County....he went to Hopkins, played football in the fall and then played club lacrosse in the spring and summer....he wasn't very good at first but picked it up quickly and walked on at Hopkins in the spring....he got cut, of course, but persisted and by the his junior year made the varsity.....why? because he was fast (played tailback) and athletic....you can't teach that but you can teach someone to catch and throw a lacrosse ball......
WClax17
05-10-2007, 08:19 PM
but he wasnt recruited as a lacrosse player, he learned how to play a little bit then he walked on
also, i do not remember this BC face off guy at all, when we played them i played the wing and our face of guy, who is going to st leo, and probably not facing off, at least not mainly, was rolling the ball out to me on almost every face

There is a vast difference between flying down to visit your buddy in Florida to escape the weather in 'Cuse and a "recruiting trip".
As for 94% at the X, I gotta ask, in the kindest possible way: Against who???
Torin
05-11-2007, 05:47 AM
I believe that one of the BC coaches has some connection with Syracuse and just brought his buddy (I am assuming) just to check out the team and then just watched. And like low2high said there is a difference between recruiting trip and a regular trip and there is a difference between watching a practice and recruiting certain players.
Warlax16
05-11-2007, 06:48 AM
And another thing, Syracuse (and all other Colleges) are really busy in the Spring. Waaaaayyyyy too busy to make a trip down to Florida and watch some kid with potential to be a good lacrosse player. THis guy that came down, was probably just a guy that went to Syracuse and played lacrosse there. It is very unlikely a coach, assistant or head, would leave his team to come check out a "prodigy."

Syracuse has a lot of time on their hands now....unless, of course, they're scouting the NCAA's....

Lol nice, but BCGoalie said it was at a practice, which in my assumption would have been before they left for Orlando and the Club Florida Final Four and this was before Syracuse lost to UMASS and got the news that they didn't make the tourney.

our team continued practice for 9 days after the orlando trip...which is when the scouts were down...our coach is somewhat of a practice nazi...that and they were less of practices and more of scrimmages...more fun than work...but im guessing that if he was indeed scouting that would be the best way to showcase the faceoff skill. I also believe that you might be mistaken WClax17...our face off guy won 10 out of 14 faceoffs against your team...and even if you aren't the best in your area...we would expect a team in the tampa area which constantly brags of its superiority...which in some cases is self evident...to easily handle a faceoff guy who has only been holding a stick for a month...so I think we can agree that no matter what the story...the kid is indeed talented.
Torin
05-11-2007, 08:28 PM
Yes I agree that he his talented, I have seen him play and did lose several face offs to him; but that isn't really what I disagree with...more of the fact that you are saying he was recruited/scouted by 'Cuse/Duke.

im not mistaken, ur pole was just faster than me, our face guy would put it right to me, but your pole would beat me to the ball, your guy won the face off, but it was in no way because of his skill it was the speed of your lsm

CardinalPuff that may be the most brainless reply i have ever heard on TLF. Is the "why not" a serious question? Yes colleges are RECRUITING althletes but it helps if the atheletes can play lacrosse. Another thing is that kid WALKED ON you idiot... my point was he wasnt being recruited, but feel free to continue making a complete fool of yourself on here.

you can see all the players that are out playing at their various locations from all the different grad years there
and the top two faceoff guys in the entire state last year were gallo from WS (whos now at Ursinus College in PA) and aaron king from TC (who i dont believe is playing)......because of that i seriously doubt that southwest kid is getting anything besides a "questionaire" from Duke and SU which is minimum interest at best

Actually two players from Florida in the 2006 season were scouted...
-An attack from BC was scouted to go to Utica not Ithaca I believe. The FSU coach also wanted him to play on the team also.
-Another player, a middie, was scouted and had interest in DII/III schools. Of those schools the only one that comes off the top of my mind is Limestone.
They both went to a recruiting camp and this is where they picked up the interest. But, I believe neither of them went for several personal reasons.
As for the cousin of a player at Duke he went to try outs one year and was turned down and then wasn't even invited to try outs the next year.
Other notables from SWFL lacrosse would be-
-An attack from 2005 at Cypress Lakes who went to play at a small DIII school, not sure if he is still playing
-Another Cypress player, an LSM went to St.Leo but gave it up for FSU lax.
-A middie off Canterbury talked of going to Nazareth but never made it.
-A middie from Community School of Naples tried out an Denison but was turned down because of his size.
Aside from that several players play in the MCLA club teams in Florida. Please don't forget that these clubs are very good and actually play and beat DII/DIII schools all the time. While I'm on the topic let me say that plenty of the players in FL college lacrosse could very easily play in the NCAA. They're just in the very long process of getting in to the NCAA....It might never happen but we hope so.
