maroon over orange

I am new at the whole dyeing scheme. Ive picked out my colors. I would like to do maroon over a tangerine orange using the hot glue gun technique. Ive heard of colors that are over lapping could come out a different color. If I put orange down first and then maroon will the final product come out a different color or what?

orange first becasue its lighter.you need to dye the darker color over the lighter one.
