So what's everyone's dish on the champs this year in Canada??
03 saw the US trounce the Aussie's in the final like the Persian's ran over the Spartans...it was tragic. Also saw the emergance of big players such as Coco Stanwick, Dana Dobbie, Kristen Waagbo, Krista Pellizzi, Kate McHarg & Hannah Nielsen, nearly all of those (Kato graduated) playing in the NCAA finals this year looking for a ring and 2 (Dana & Hannah) nominated for this year's Tewaaraton Trophy at the nation's best player...
What's the 07 tourney going to produce?? Which players will make it big in college? Are the US going to dominate again? My thought is most likely yes, I don't think the Aussie's have the size, strength or big game practice to pull it off, although I'd love to be proved very wrong...

Im gonna go with aus....
I hope they do win, but i do think the US will be to much and will not want to lose another championship (after the womens and mens).

While the U.S. Women's elite team lost to the Aussie's, it was mostly because we went with experience...aka older women compared to the younger college kids. So I think a team under 19 from the U.S. would definitely win. Lacrosse is further developed here especially at a younger age.
The women on the Australia World Cup team that are so amazing played college ball in the U.S. so since this team is made up of girl that haven't necessarily done that YET we should be fine.

Just played against the Canadian team, they were good, but I don't think they'll be coming close to winning it all. Maybe third if they play extremely well, they're definitely talented team and have been working hard, but I don't see them doing much better than a bronze medal.

I gotta go with the US on this one. Got a girl from CT on the team representing us nutmeggers so it's a no brainer.

Wow, I definitely think USA is going to win it all. I thought their only tough opponent would be the Aussies, but they were beat by Canada who I though really didn't have a shot of winning against either the Aussies or the US. Only time will tell, hopefully I'm up there to watch the finals and semis in person though.

Real Time Scoring for the Women's U19 World Field Lacrosse Championships.
Well a two minute delay, but, better than a kick in the face with a golf shoe.
Canada / USA @ 2:00 pm today.
You can also check the box score and scoresheet.
............the Haudenesaunee Women are a powerhouse! Very fast, with excellent stick skills and good goaltending. I saw them destroy New Zealand yesturday. Final score 15 - 7 but the final result was not an accurate tally for the game on the field. A couple of soft goals. They are currently leading the Czech's 4-1 in the first half.

Yeahhh, US kicked some major butt against Canada today. I was expecting a score something more like that, looks like they'll be owning this tournament. I don't really see anyone getting in their way.

Shocking---Hannah Nielsen dominating the stats on the #1 team in the nation, even in its biggest games, but being shut down by not the strongest teams in a u-19 league? Are they double face-guarding her :)?

I heard that Nielsen played 5 minutes against England then went down with some sort of injury? Anybody have any details on that? I saw the Canada/Aus stats and it looked as if Nielsen had a impact, not only scoring goals but getting draws and CT's.
I think it is more shocking that the aussies have started out the way they have, with a loss and a draw. Should be interesting to see what the US does to them...

ha i like the way u say "what the US does to them..." thats a bit ominous.....i wonder why after 12 years of competition that the other nations don't realise that the kids need to be a truck load more muscular to deal with the buffo yankos. i wish the aussies luck and a full roster....

Did you happen to attend the game? If so, are the stats off, or did the goalies really not have any saves? Seems like they took the time to get the playing time exact, but I find it really hard to believe all four goalies (2 US and 2 Aussies) had that rough of a game.

i've only got the stats to run off from in Australia, I think they throw up the goal scorers first and fill in the blanks later on??
otherwise all goalies make 0 stops and all shooters are 100% accurate. Which we all know isn't going to happen!! Even the US aren't THAT good! I saw 7 of the US roster are attending top 5 schools in Duke, Virginia, UNC, Georgetown and Northwestern. Wish I could be there seeing it with my own eyes.
Bring on 2009 and the Americans will have an opponent in the defending world champions!
Is it right that as long as Canada beat england by 2 or more its a Canada v Australia semi final?? (if they get through their quarters unscathed....?)

you got that right! I've got one word for what the USA do....HUSTLE. hustle hustle hustle 24/7. The only way they'll be pushed is if they're hustled right back on and off the ball. Its what the Aussies did in '05, they out hustled the Americans and it earned them gold. And a demolition at that!!
By 7 hey? thats pretty close...being as they beat Aus & Can by 12 and 14 respectively. The last 2 finals have been won by 8 in '99 and 13 in '03. Against who in the final? Australia or Canada?
On another note will England get past Japan?? And who have been the stars of the tourney so far?

Has anyone found any sites with photo coverage of the games.
England v Japan will be a tough QF as will Canada v Haudenesaunee.
Do you think the Aussies are playing Possum?
They seem to have got the 2nd best QF Draw v Wales and avoid USA in the semi-final.
Aussie Coach Paul Mollison is a wiley old fox and may have a surprise in store in semi-final & final.

They will definitely be the 2 quarters to watch. They have definitely got the 2nd best draw, Canada pulled a tougher one just from Haudenesaunee being a new team so nobody knew how'd they perform against other nations.
He is a wiley old fox but I don't think the Aussies would play possum, too much pride and ego to nearly have to play the USA in the semi! Lady Luck has given them a 2nd chance, they have the talent, they just need to start playing as a unit of green and gold rather than a bunch of individuals. everyone needs to step up...it'll come down to how well Nielsen, Kennedy, Wells, Sofarnos play. If the offense puts their 'stuff' together they can be electric. Toughen up in transition and D and pop out some big stops between the pipes and they'll be flying!

England seemed to have chosen a kit from the 70s, we do have Under Armour over here honest.
Those collars are great. :WTF:

haha yes....although it seems every single time England chose the most old school 70's gear they can find! How can the football and rugby teams have such cool gear and the lacrosse team pulls something out of the history books...I would blame the southern private school genres influence, they call it traditional but its just crap! :loser:
EVERYONE JUMP ON THE UA BANDWAGON!!!! although I heard Reebok or was it Adidas...anyway, one of the 2 have released Lacrosse only products with shoes clothes the lot....what is the US wearing this time round? They're always so different but looks good.
Are you over in London (Ontario not England) atm?

Stockport, England. :bye:
It isn't the style so much as having playing kit suitable for the conditions. It's almost as though they think they must have kit that they can use at home ie in the winter season.
Unfortunately that Private School tradition doesn't just effect the choice of attire but the Coaching regime as well is all based around Berkhamsted Collegiate School. The players are incredibly dedicated and train really hard but that traditional influence concentrates more on fitness and structured set plays and not enough on stickwork, flair, creativity and dodging skills.
The senior group have even persuaded girls not to go to college in USA to play as they would not be eligible for selection if they did. :banghead:
I hope England can beat Japan and come home with a Medal but they do things the hard way.

Nice, I grew up in Bolton and went to BSGD so I know all about the private school system and their ways. and the wonderful winter collared shirts and pleated skirts! The girls need to learn to shoot from the outside, be creative and flair it up....its almost like there is TOO much discipline and they dont take the shots unless they are top of the circle, which leaves wasted opportunities...very frustrating to watch!
That is probably the craziest thing I have heard about not letting them be eligable if they go to the USA! It would be the best thing for them to bring home new ideas and techniques, I only know of one girl who played at UMD but I think she was Welsh? Why do people think the aussies won in 05? It was loaded with college players so they could beat the amercians at their own game...its almost like going undercover!
England need to burn their bras in regards to their approach to the game!!

Yes, Laura Warren (Wales) went to Maryland.
Wales have progressed and have Christa Samaras as Head Coach of the Senior team. Laura is an Assistant Coach for the Wales U19s.
Scotland have had a US Coach as well Feffie Barnhill.
Wales & Scotland have nowhere need the player pool to choose from though as England.
England have had some very talented individual players but the Old School mentality stifles them.
Not to mention the North v South divide if you came from Bolton originally you will know a thing about that as well.
You made the right decision moving to Perth.

wow...Christa Samaras is a monster! I'm sure she'd find the British mentality towards the sport very interesting indeed...the North v South bracket is also a very silly thing.
I'm really looking forward to the England/Japan game and the Canada/Haudenesaunee game....
I'm especially impressed with Japan's progress without any US influence?!?

yea. I was at the game because my sister as playin up there and the goalies only had 1 or 2 saves a piece. It was horrible. I think geary let a lot in because after the first 15 minutes she just fell asleep
and i think the us is gonna chrush everyone. They have tons of offensive power such as Shalyn Blaney (spell?), Shannon Smith etc. and the defense is almost inpenetrable

Interesting. I'm looking at a lot of the goalies and it seems like a lot of them are tanking it, but it's really hard to tell without being there. Good news is I'm headed up there today to watch the semi's and finals so I'll be able to judge for myself. I've actually played with a lot of the girls on the US team and a few on other teams so it should be a fun time regardless if the US crushes everyone.

you know if I wasn't Australian I'd find that hilarious....but I am so its just funny instead  It is always the hardest job trying to stay focused when you only see about 8 shots all game...at least when teams play the US they know the goalie gets some practice....?!

Went to all the games today minus the 7pm game. Best game, IMO, was the Canada vs. Australia game. Granted I left a little early with about 5 min left in the game, it was still enjoyable to watch despite the Aussies pretty much dominating Canada. Unlike the US, most of their goals seemed to have finesse to me, with many assists and movement in the 8. They also out-hustled and had superior stick skills than Canada, although Canadadid managed to at least make it seem like a good game. Very fun game to watch, especially with the huge crowd (2400 people in attendance). Don't know what happened the last Aussie/Canada game, but something must have happened because the score was not even close to being the same. Tomorrow should be a great game if Australia can do what they did today, IMO.

in response to the goalie situation of them not performing, I would look more at the people doing stats not paying attention. having watched most of the games, then looking at the stats, they got everyhting wrong, from game times to recording the saves to the wrong keeper on the team! i would not judge the quality of the goalies on those statistics, because to be blunt the stats are rubbish!!!

I'd love to see these games as you only learn so much from stats and stills.
I can either trade for WC 2005 games or U19 2003 games or pay for them.
Please PM if you cn help
