View Full Version : Re-entry of the crease by jumping GK?

This occurred in a recent game, and caused some question amongst my fellow coaches and I:
Goalkeeper is in the crease. A high pass is made towards "X" from up top. The goalkeeper jumps into the air from his position inside the crease, catches the passed ball, and lands with one foot in the crease and one foot outside of the crease. Has he illegally re-entered the crease?

Our GK was called for re-entry on this situation. We were too far away to verify his claim regarding his foot position.

One foot in the crease is still in the crease. The official probably determined that that foot came down second or was lifted once your keeper landed.

My take:

One foot lands in, then one foot lands out: no violation.

One foot lands out, then one foot lands in: illegal re-entry.

Both feet land at the same time, one in and one out: no violation (since he's still "in" while airborne and he's allowed to have one foot out and one foot in and still be in).

Thanks gents.
Our best guess is that the feet landed at different times. He didn't move after he landed, which is what made it look odd to us since it appeared that he jumped straight up.
The crease circles were painted in black,so there was no way we could tell for sure where he landed from our vantage point.

I tell my guys that complaining about ref calls is as pointless as complaining about a bad deal of cards. Play the hand you're dealt and win anyway.
