I played goalie in high school and college (many years ago) and am now just getting back into lacrosse in a "post-collegiate" league so I'm learning new things and relearning things I've forgotten. My question is about goalie chatter. I think I'm good about loudly calling out the ball position every few seconds (i.e., "ball top right!" or "ball top center"), and I yell out when then ball is behind the goal versus when the attacker crosses to the front and has a shot angle. I was taught to do this largely so that my defenders could determine where they are in relation to the goal without having to take their eyes off their man. I'm also learning to call out the slides. But I'm sure that there are other things to be communicating and for other reasons. I'm wondering what kinds of things other goalies communicate with their defenders.

calling for a "check" when there is a pass to the middle, calling out # of d-men and opponents on a fast break (we use "snipe #" and "fist #"), cutters of course, and don't forget the man hovering backdoor that your d-pole will occasionally forget. mind is kinda blank on the rest atm

Welcome back to lax. I too came back to post-collegiate ball after a long layoff two years ago. Anyway, you've got most of it, but a couple more:
- "Hold" to tell the d to stop a guy from advancing, either from X or from the top of the box
- "Push out" to drive the guy away from the goal
- "Lift" to remind the d to work the offensive player's hands to ruin his pass or shot
- "Cutter" to warn of guys cutting through the middle
- Call out your basic slide package to remind the defense. For example, when there is no O on the crease, you run "Circle" or "Adjacent" slides, and when someone is on the crease you run "Crease" slides
- "fast break" or "no break"
- Give specific instructions to your d, like "Joe, you're too far out" or "Joe, drive him left" etc.

Also do a search on here - this has been discussed a few times and I'm sure I've forgotten some.

Don't forget to call out PICKS for your defenseman on the ball, especially when the attack is working plays from behind the net.

I also used to mutter "[D-name] screen" if my crease-D got too settled in right in front of me when the ball was out front. That was his clue to move a little bit and maybe nudge the crease attack while he was at it.

i always let my d know when to get high and take away the angle, where they are at, what they should be doing(i.e. pushing on the hips, funnel them down away from the goal) and of course slide(FIRE!)

you can call x wich means when the balls at x or whos hot wich is pretty much the same as a slide it just mean whos ready to help... also tell your d when to pressure or to reset
