I was a goalie my first 2 years at collegiate ball. Then an all-stater came, and I played LSM. Less than a week before the championship weekend, he finds out there's a wedding he has to go to. I'm thrown back in the net, we lose a good goalie, and we lose a key faceoff/defense/man-down player. We had lost to both teams in the regular season, and we ended up winning 15-2 and 9-5, respectively.

First practice the next season, coach puts me back at lsm (even though that's my natural position)...

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me. This is my first year playing goalie, and our team has never made it to the playoffs before, and I had to start in our first ever varsity playoff game. I started off soo bad because I was nervous, but then I pulled through at the end and got the game ball. It was a lot of fun! I hope I get to do it all again. haha

I was in somewhat the same boat. I got moved to goalie the summer before my soph year. Made the varsity team as 1 of 2 back-up goalies. Our starting goalie wasn't very consistant, so in the 1st game, we were down, they put me in in the 4th quarter, and we ended up winning. A few games later the same thing happened and, but we lost by 1 (came back from being down about 10 points though). And a game or two after that I started my first game playing the top team in our area, and somehow we won that game as well. Then the other goalie quit.

Just have confidence in yourself. If you aren't out there ready to play, your team will read that and act the same way. You've got nothing to lose, so have some fun, and if you happen to win a few games along the way, awesome, if not, you're getting some experience playing with higher competition that can help you develope your skills more and make you a better goalie.
