The width and way the head is shaped on the back face. That width, combined with the super flexibility makes it perfect for the plunger move, or the "pinch and pop" as Quint likes calling it.
Plus, Lacrosse Magazine did an article about Alex Smith last year, the face-off champion the last two years. He said part of his secret is the Blade. So everybody started using them.
The STX Kannon was designed to do the same thing, but it is a little to narrow. The unfortunate thing is that the Blad has been discontinued. So you can get a premium price if you can find any. The bad part is they break like crazy.

my mission in life is to find unmolested (pinched) blades
unfortunetely people charge the likes of $200 for one in good condition often times
anyways blades are basically perfect, and i REALLY wish they'd toughen them up a bit, and release a blade 2.0 with the new throat

warrior would be stupid not to what with all the positive press people have been generating about it. alex smith and all the people on TLF basically have the marketing done for warrior.

lol no they are really flexible when you first buy it, the blade wouldn't be very good for d because of its flexibility and its terrible scoop design.

Alex Smith loves his blades, and stock piles them... And a little off topic but Ryan Powell used one with a trad last year.

Buying the Blades
Alex Smith has been receiving praise and accolades for his face-off prowess for a long time now. And before his junior season of college, his stick of choice—the Warrior Blade—was discontinued by its manufacturer. So, before it was too late, Smith and his dad scrounged up as many as they possibly could, roughly 30 to 40.
So, now that he will bring his absurd face-off skills to the sport’s biggest stage, will he have enough Blades to last him two more games?
“Yeah, I’ve still got about 20 of them in my garage,” he laughs. “I’ll have enough to last a long time in the MLL. When I run out of Blades, that’s when I’ll retire.”
Smith isn’t alone. He says a lot of the face-off guys he’s faced this season are still using them. So plenty of the guys obviously stocked up on Blades when they were discontinued. The Blade’s narrow design, flared sidewalls and flexibility make it ideal for Smith’s face-off move of choice, which pinches the ball between the sidewalls of the stick in order to control it.
