I just started stringing costom early this month and I have been having lots of fun doing so. As I was miserably failing I came up with an idea. I now call it the Peter Pocket. I have still not perfected it and will put some pictures up when I do. So as I was saying, do you think that it is a good idea to make up custom string jobs or stay with ones that you think are reliable?

you probably should stick with ones that are reliable, because many customs take a lot longer to string and are much harder to keep after compared to mesh. But if YOU make a custom pocket that is very good and you like it a lot then YOU should keep it.

i like experimenting with new types of pockets, because it boh enhances my stringing skills, and whan I come up wit a pocket I like (my Kiwi pocket) I keep it in there and sell it to other people.

I'd recommend studying other pockets both in the way that they're strung (difficulty, etc.) and performance wise. If you string a channel that doesn't perform as well as a Pita channel, for instance, try using the Pita, and experiment with others. Try creating a hybrid pocket of different elements of other styles, then go on to creating your own completely original ideas once you feel ready.
Well making up your own usable customs is hard, but how else can new pocket ever be invented? Use existing pockets for practice and to learn about stringing, than combine elements and use your experience to create your own custom(s).

Once you understand stringing customs and what certain elements contribute to the pocket (coils, saddles, mesh, etc.), then its time to apply your knowledge to a new custom.
