I was just wondering how many of you guys wear shin gaurds when you play? Or if you do something else to protect your shins just post it! I myself choose not to use them because i thought that there was no need for them until in my last 2 games i got my leg completely wrecked from 2 straight on shots. after the games i went to the doctor he said that i had extreme bruising in my leg, i had tissue damage, and i had an extreme bone bruise. he said i almost fractured my leg. so i think i might start using shin gaurds. What do you guys think?

Nah man just wear some sweatpants in games and after the game wear shorts to show off your new bruises to the ladies. 98% serious but if you have the self confidence to wear shin guards and are able take the verbal abuse from friends/teamates then go for it. I don't think the shin guards will allow for any less mobility than how mobile you will be.after geting nailed with a shot strait on the shin. Personaly I feel that shin shots hurt the least but its you opinion that is important.

almost no goalies were shin guards and if you do most people will think your afraid of the ball from what you said it sounded like you got hit pretty hard but if you really need something sweatpants disperse the blow a little or you can roll them up to a comfortable spot and that gives you protection also.

i got a majorly nasty compound bruise (a guys knee, then eight shots to the exact same place) on my lower left shin at the end of this past season. the last of the shots, i nearly passed out. i got a small volleyball kneepad and used that to cover the bruise. nobody thought anything of it, becuase it looked like exactly what it was: a protective covering for a bruise. i highly recomend that approach if you're looking to protect a vulnerable spot. or you could always tape a gauze pad over a trouble-area to minimize the impact. that's what a lot of college/professional goalies do.

more do than you think kingwolf.
I only wear shin guards if i get really beaten up and need some time for my legs to heal but that has only happened to me once. wear soccer shin guards if anything and if anyone gives you crap tell them to get in goal while you laser shots into their shins. Shin guards are a comfort item mainly, having said everything i just did i do not wear them and have only worn them after my legs gotten beaten up (previously stated)
just whatever you do don't get catchers shin guards because come on that is a bit excessive soccer ones or lax ones will do.

I don't and I have never worn shin guards. The only real reason you might want to wear them is if you're injured like you are.
Better safe than sorry. ;)

If you're ashamed, were sweatpants over them. But you shouldn't have to be, because your injury could have been prevented.

My shins do not get bruised.... its my fatty places like my thighs where areas get bruised. I don't use the shin guards because it doesn't hurt that much , its just like 5 secs of pain and it is gone. If you get hit in the shins and you think it really hurts that much, wear long black socks or wear a mcdavid ankle brace which covers part of your shin.

YEah sweats r the way 2 go. I weasr em even if it 99 degrees out. Some games i still wear shorts. But i would only wear shin guards if i had to due to injury

well girls have to wear shinguards as of this year so i have no choice....i have to wear those stupid catcher gear from baseball. its a little less mobility but isnt that bad. i needed it cause i got so many bruises on my knees and shins plus i had to be called out from a game cause of bleedin on a game from the bruise....i think you should wear it until at least they heal, dont be ashamed of it just wear sweatpants over it or something.

My daughter wears these: STX Shinguards (http://www.sportsunlimitedinc.com/stxconshingu.html) with NO loss of mobility. If fact, if you can get a copy of this month's (June 2007) issue of Inside Lacrosse, take a look at the photo of Brian Dougherty (former U of Maryland great) on page 66; he has one of these on his right shin -- probably protecting a serious bruising injury just like yours. Be smart, protect your damaged leg -- you'll have a longer LAX career.

I always feel like sucha noob when I play against other goalies. I need to wear Ice-hockey shingaurds because my shin splints are so bad and I hada stress fracture in my fibula this year. I used to wear a couple layers of soccer shinagaurds and softabll sliders but i found these and they're more comfortable, easier to handle, and all in one peice instead of 6. I may look like an idiot, but I make up for it in saves.

u guys r all barnys. shin guards r the most degrading thing u could possibly wear we already r called lazy. Just take shots to shin and dont say ow that hurt or thats going to leave a mark just make the shin save and be happy or get better stick skills so u dont get hit as often. Be a man

I have one on my right leg most times since I have a massive bone bruise there. O and don't tell people to grow kahones try living with a bone bruise that has your shin bone soft and squshey(SP?) for over a year.

there is a big difference between wearing more protection cause your scared. or because your hurt. if your hurt wear. why get beat up even more

I think that you should wear them, because it is better to be safe of injuring your shin further. What if you took another shot in the same place and you were out for the season? Better to be safe than sorry.

o i believe u when some of u probably get hit in the shin and start crying and then the coaches tells u to be tougher or wear shin guards that would take balls to choose to wear the shin guards in front of the whole team

Just wear sweatpants over them. Nobody will know.
But I am a goalie, and if I ever saw a goalie noticeably wearing shin guards--injury or no injury--I would absolutely heckle the goalie from the other crease throughout the entire game.
I would scream and taunt him throughout the entire game until he finally took them off.
So--my point is--due to the injury--and only the injury--wear them. But DO NOT let anyone see that you are wearing them. Keep it a secret.
Otherwise people like me will make you the laughing stock of the whole game.

I'm sorry but i mean the only excusable reason for wearing any padding on the legs for a goalie is only for a serious injury. I mean wearing big gaudy bulky shin guards just sends a message to the other team. Nobody will take you seriously as a goalie and everyone will just think your a softy.

ive never seen doc wear shin guards and ive been to several umass games maybe he does when hes hurt
anyways you should only wear shin guards if your seriously hurt or if your a new goalie and need to build up confidence after enough shots the nerves in your shins go dead anyway so the pain is alot less

My son is a goalie, and our league is requiring keepers to wear shin guards at the 3/4 and 5/6 grade level.

Shin guards dont help that much without an injury the guards can cause a serious loss of mobility... the thing to do is just to get the baseball batting guards 3-4 inches tall put that on your injury and play... its protection and u can still run

why are you being disrespectful. and yes it in that part youre right, its probably tough for guys to wear them infont of the team.
preseason i practiced in an annex gym at our school and with friends shooting on me and there was a guy too and i had no gear on whatsoever and got hit so many times i cant count and didnt cry...so i dont know where your assumptions are from. but i do have to wear them cause im a girl
