I purchased an xbox 360 last night finally!
I just had a few questions regarding online play. It provides you with the ethernet cable, should that plug right into the wall or do I need a router?
Anyone with some help would be greatly appreciated.

You could plug it into the wall or router whichever is easier for you.

Yeah make sure you have high speed bro. Or else it will be crazy laggy, and it will take forever to download

the beta is sweet! i love it, just i hate snowbound that course sucks.
anyway back on topic: if you can, plug it right into your modem, its even faster connection then a router, but if you have multiple internet cables then your gonna have to put it into a router-- i mean it doesn't make that big of a difference, but if your playin' Gears of War tournament, then your gonna want to plug it into your modem.
it should come with instructions.. if you need any other help ive had my 360 since July 13th 2006, so i know my way around it!

so ive had live for around 5 months now, and i usually have no problems. whenever i try to host a match in certain games, it is extremely laggy and i know its because i dont have a great connection. whenever i plug it directly into the modem it doesnt work for some reason, any help?

i dont think you can plug it into the wall.... i could be wrong, but i am almost 100% sure that a ethernet cable is much larger than a phone cable.

Get a WIRED router ... trust me on this.
It wont be wireless but basically you plug the ethernet cord into the router itslef because routers can address that line with a different IP address so you can have internet. Wired/Wireless routers are able to give multiple IP adresses so your main computer can still have internet going and your 360 can too :D
Putting it directly into the modem will not work because a modem gives only 1 IP, so you basically are turning off your interent for your main computer and putting it on for your 360.

I ended up going with the xbox router that plugs into the back...Works nice, no lag, strong connection.
Just gotta get some real games to try it on now.
