when i read this article it really ticked me off. saying that they would rather watch a bad highschool football game than todays national championship? in my opinion these guys have never really taken the time to understand the sport.
Comments?

Thats ridiculous. Atleast he didn't totally bag on it.

About the percentages, what percent of people have ever sat down and actually watched a game?

Nobody gives lacrosse a chance but this guy actually did. I just don't see how after watching that game you still don't like it.

depending on what game you watch you could get bored. I know I was watching the Hopkins v. Deleware game and even I was pretty bored. Just like any other sport, if you're not into it, why would you watch it? I'm not going to sit and watch golf (not that I consider it a sport) all day and enjoy it because I'm not a fan of golf. Just like this guy isn't a fan of lacrosse. It seems the people that are crazy about football shut out all other sports.

I think the big thing about lacrosse is that you have to apprecaite how skilled these guys are to really love it. The players make what they are doing look so easy, so for a person who has never pickd up a stick, they cannot truly appreciate when these players are picking off corners with 90 mile an hour shots on the run. Yah, its unbelieveable to us, but if you dont know how much skill and athleticism is needed to complete such a sick shot, its really not that cool. I know before I played lacrosse, I would watch lacrosse and be midly amused at what these guys were doing, because I like the excitement of sports, no matter what sport is being played. Now that I play lacrosse, to me, it is the most exciting sport to watch, even more exciting then football. For lacrosse to get popular, it is going to need to expand the amount of people that are playing, which it is obviously doing. Even though 68% could care less about the sport, I guarantee is they all tried picking up the sport and playing it, 90% of then would fall in love with it, just like we all have. We just have to give lacrosse more time to expand.

Also, like most of the comments on the article, lacrosse players do play for the love of the game, not for the money. I bet that you would see nearly half of the players in the NBA, NFL, or MLB quit the sport if they were to get the salary that lacrosse players do.

I read almost all the comments, some of those people are so incredibly ignorant. They say that baseball is more exciting and that a bad-high school football game would be more fun to watch? No one goes to my school's games because they are so bad at football. Everyone seems to show up for the lacrosse games, both boys and girls. People just haven't opened their eyes or their brains and taken notice of lacrosse.

here's my comment. i tried not to bash the guy, but rather offer my opinions on the subjecy and complemented him:
" I was there and i loved every second of it. Even if lacrosse isn't "your cup of tea" how can you not be excited and enchanted by the fast paced play, the jaw-dropping hits, the ankle breaking dodges, laser beam shots and the lighting quick saves. Even in a good football game there is a ton of time between snaps not to mention multiple timeouts and time wasted due to the moving of the chains. Given there are some exciting plays in GOOD football, i'd rather write a 10 page thesis on how boggle is the national sport of Norway than watch a lame football game. Although i admire the fact taht you gave lacrosse a chance and actually watched a few games(a lot more than a lot of columinst that periodically bash lacrosse), i wish you could fully under stand the sport because once you get into the sport, there is nothing in the owrld thatcompares to the NCAA Championship weekend with 2 amazing games(granted the Hopkins vs. Deleware game was pretty lame)."

I still don't like that people's arguments about how they hate lacrosse are all like "I hate lacrosse because it's only played at Duke, Cornell, and Hopkins." What's wrong with having to be somewhat smart to a sport. We know these colleges have academic standards that everyone who attends, qualifies for.

I read that and posted more to the baseball-following lax bashers. I pretty much said that because the youth is becoming more involved in lax than in baseball, the next generation will have a larger lax fan-base than baseball.

How are we all rich kids? On my team we might have a few kids that have good amounts of money but we also have kids that can barely pay for their equipment. These kids saying that lacrosse players are a-holes are idiots. Find me lacrosses T.O. and I'll find you a Barry Bonds that hasn't done steroids. I find this extremely offense the people making the BROAD statements about us being rich a-holes. They don't know anything. Almost every kid on here is extremely nice and we all share a passion that matches or is as big as a college football teams. We all love lacrosse. I hope this guy falls down stairs and breaks every bone in his body and then has his nuts eaten off by a rage infected person from "28 Days Later."

I posted a comment and it didn't have much bashing of him, since he had such a strong opinion on how boring lacrosse is I wrote about how bad of a writer he is and how he is ignorant for not giving a sport a chance. He didn't allow my comment to be posted which I found hilarious.

I also tried to write a well thought out response to the guy saying he wasn't a ral writer as he was writing a blog a pointed a whole bunch of facts that proved him worng, he did not allow my post. I think the main thing is though, Lax won't be mainstream until more of the public school kids start playing. And they are, it will jsut tke a few more years. What really needs to happen is our generation needs to get older and have kids, that way there are two huge generations following lax. That's why babseball is where it is right now, becuse you parents, grand parents all folowed baseball. But until the richest kids around baltimore aren't the best players in the country, then Lax will stay where it is, when it starts hitting the regular classes of people then it will explode, we're almost there.

This article saddened me. After reading the article and responses, I feel like everything we've done to spread the game and make it mainstream has failed: it is still perceived as a snobby prestigious sport. But then again, it is just one sports writer and five baseball fans, so I shouldn't be so disheartened.

I think it's funny that people are saying that this is a white man's sport; on google there are only 3 black lacrosse players. One person said that we were all stuck up rich white kids. They don't wait and think about all the whiny rich black players in the NBA or NFL.

that article would usually tick me off, but seeing as how lacrosse is the fastest growing team sport in America i think this guy is just an idiot. He probaly watches NASCAR and considers Dale Ernhardt one of the greatest athletes of all time. Lacrosse at my highschool is only 5 years old and we have 60 kids on our team and on any given night we have more of an audience than baseball, softball and soccer for both mens and womens combined. People are falling in love with the sport, this guy is an idiot. It has elements of basketball, football, hockey and soccer and last time i checked all of those sports are pretty popular. The author of this article is probaly one of the dicks who cracks jokes about the duke lacrosse scandal and considers this a [no cursing] prep sport. I consider lacrosse the last true professional sport, people play it for the love of the game not for the money, i have never seen or heard of a pro player refusing to play because his salary wasnt what he thought it should be. Lacrosse is alot like hockey sometimes its not fun to watch unless your in the stands, if you are in the stands it can be the most exciting sport to watch.

The ignorance kills me.... How can he even call himself a sports writer, he needs to find another job. And just for this I will NEVER subscribe to SI magazine.
