Its based on AP and IB tests are taken divided by the number of seniors. I don't think that really shows what high schools are the best. For instance, according to our own newspaper rankings, New Trier is always #1 or #2 in our state but on this list, there are six schools ahead of them.

Got it. The schools are ranked according to "a ratio devised by Jay Mathews: the number of Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2006 divided by the number of graduating seniors."

If that's valid, then so are these rankings. There may be other methodologies that are just as good.

my school is 81 we were 41 in 2003 man we slipped, and no we are not forced to take an AP class, but probably 50% do take one, many people take an excessive amount of AP's such as my sister who took 11 in just 3 years. we are not a magnet school so we have a disadvantage because we dont have IB or a specialized area.

# 217... The ranking system is very flawed I think... Total # of AP classes/ # of graduating seniors. The thing about this system is that with public schools, it doesn't take demographics into account. For example, I go to an incredibly diverse school, drawing from the best and worst neighborhoods in my city. Consequently, we have a lot of kids that just barely make it by to graduate, but also Harvard and Yale-bound students.

Sure, I don't really know another way to conveniently rank schools, like this, but for all you guys whos school didn't make it, don't worry about it.

565, How is this possible? My school is on the news with rape charges, drug busts, more rape, more drugs. Also my school is 100 years old with mold all over it, it was renovated only once. If only this was based on that type of stuff.
