I have lots of respect for Mark Millon. Sad he had to retire. His Offensive Wizardry Video was helpful.

Mark Millon was a great player in the MLL, I would have made that same decision to retire if I was in his place.

thats really sad, but understandable, and at least hes still involved and helping the growth of lacrosse. it sucks that he has to stop playing, i always liked and respected him. its too bad he couldnt finish out the season at least, but oh well.

The fact that he has Too Many commitments is a testament to the work he has put into growing the game. 10 years ago he would have been leaving for a "real job" instead of remaining imbedded in the sport.

hold it, the major sponsor of the league is putting too many demands on its players for him to play?

I agree with dougm, this seems kind of fishy...

Or maybe he just is tired of playing and would like to relax and do it just for fun without the constant pressure to perform to his best and the expectations from the fans?

I think there is probably truth to it. I view it is an incentive alignment situation. If you think about it, Warrior wants him to:
1) sell stuff and to
2) play in its league to help sell stuff.

I'm guessing that he gets paid a lot more to do #1 (commission on sales quotas - $$$) than to do #2 (player salary plus perhaps some small bonus - $). Given that choice, and the fact that he can't effectively do #1 while trying to do #2, he did what he had to do to feed his family, so to speak.

Exactly. I betcha Mark Millon at one point was asking himself, "Hmm, should I keep playing and not get paid that much, or retire and go strictly into marketing?" In the lacrosse industry, the equipment sales is where the money is. He's gonna be making way more money now than he ever did as a player.

It's sad to see him go though. He was one of my favorite players, and he's the reason that my favorite team is the Bayhawks. He had to say goodbye sometime.

wow. this guy is my favorite player ever. i loved his offensive wizardry video. he was getting pretty old. he turned 36 earlier this month. im not sure there are many other players in the MLL that are that old

every top player probably makes more money selling gear than playing, if we follow this to its logical conclusion, if you're a top dog, why play. and if you are not playinmg then where is the buzz surrounding as you a gear spokesman?

pretty good box player but at times would drive and get caught but when he got behind the coverage, deadly.

Of course. It better be, cuz if it isn't I'm gonna be pretty pissed about throwing $600 down the drain.

he was getting old, and lacrosse, especially at a pro level is very physical and fast, he was going to retire last season anyway

Oh, I don't know, maybe because you love the sport because its the best sport ever and you've dedicated your life to it because its that beastly? Also, he's pretty good at it too,;).

Just throwing out a random idea.

Millon is the rep for all mid-atlantic and also runs camps outside of his other responsibilities, so could be busier than other "top dog" players. Not to mention he's 36, so career takes on much greater importance at that age, speaking from personal experience. And the "buzz" shouldn't diminish in retirement - he can still tell great war stories on his sales calls.

I feel he's kind of abandoning his team by doing this, but I guess in the end he needs to look out for himself.

*pours out a little Gatorade* He was one of the dudes that got me to be a fan of lacrosse. Sad to see him go. :chair: :thumbsdow :nono: :bartmoon: :guns: :hot: to corporate obligations sucking the fun out of pro sports.
