With all the threads here about music, there ought to be one dedicated to this. Now I feel old.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sgt._Pepper's_Lonely_Hearts_Club_Band)

Google news for "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=Sgt.+Pepper%27s+Lonely+Hearts+Club+Band&btnG=Search+News)

Oooh, gotta link to Little Steven, (http://edition.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Music/05/31/music.beatles.reut/) who, to my surprise, disses the stereo version:

So, with the only disclaimer that the appallingly awful stereo mastering is, tragically, the only available version right now, let me revise revisionist history and suggest that "Sgt. Pepper" was, and is, an incredible piece of work and absolutely the best representation of the Summer of Love and the very psychedelic 1967.

Although I never listen to it, I have the album somewhere. Mine is surely the stereo version.

Finally, a link to the best show on radio, Little Steven's Underground Garage. (http://www.littlestevensundergroundgarage.com/homepage.html) This weekend, it's all about Sgt. Pepper.

The mono version was how the band originaly wanted it to sound, and is just a different mix, you can hear all the music better and it blends together better, im not a beatles fan personally, but alot of my friends are and are always trying to find bootlegs of the mono version.

Hmm. "Pet Sounds" was released as a mono album. There's an album that I ought to have.

The only reason "Abbey Road" is not the #1 pop album is because it came 2 years after Sgt. Pepper. I adore the Sgt. Pepper album, absolutely, but with songs (I believe) 9-17 on Abbey Road, you can actually hear and experience the absolute pinnacle of the best pop band ever. It's like you can SEE the high point--and there was really nowhere else to go after that...

Abbey Road > Sgt Pepper, but I really love them both

What gives Sgt. Pepper its mystique is "A Day in the Life" and the hundreds of references and connections to the "Paul is Dead" hoax on the cover and the lyrics...

If this thread gets going, I'll post some of them--really blows my students' minds when I explain the "Paul is Dead" connections...

I only have the White Album. I'm a terrible person. But, still, I thought, hey, I think this thread is about The Beatles! And sure enough, it was. High fives for everyone.

NOBODY has an opinion regarding what is commonly referred to as "the top pop album ever", yet we have 3 pages of "top 10 rappers?"

unacceptable

I weep for the future

I happen to be sitting 2 feet from my vinyl copy of Sgt Pepper, as it says right under the copyright boilerplate: A Splendid Tine Is Guaranteed For All.

Hey, most of the people in that thread have bad picks anyways.

You haven't figured out that 90% of TLF is good music challenged?

Definitely one of the best albums of all time.
