So my dog is finally doing something productive other than eating or sleeping. I trained her to chase my shots when I miss them and bring them back to me. She just waits behind my net for me to shoot. Almost always she stops my missed shots, saving many hours of me looking around in the woods. Sometimes she even brings the ball back to me. Anybody else's dog do something like this?

My black lab used to.
For a while my sheltie would go fetch the ball, bring it back and drop it in front of me. Apparently it got old because now when I miss, all she does is sits there and looks at me with this "Hey, you might want to get that" expression on her face. So, I stopped taking her outside shooting with me.

My dog stands behind me then goes and gets them.

I got kind of an opposite situation. When I shoot and miss and it goes over my neighbors fence if there dog is out he will get the ball and hide it somewhere. Or if i shoot a ball near the fence he'll dig for it and take it. He'll watch me play lax for hours until he gets called in.

My friend did it, and there was a hole in the net, ended up cracking the dogs skull, and had to put it to sleep

If my dog is out she usually just waits in the net, which is never a good thing so I put her inside when I shoot now. When she does get them though she never gives them back. Now I've got one of those backstops so that helps me a lot.

Well I have something better than all of you, I have trained my friend to sit behind my goal and when I miss he goes and chases it. My dog especially likes it, she sits next to me and when my friend goes to get a ball she has an expression like "ya fetch isn't so much fun is it?"... (sadly this isn't true)
And no my dog doesn't case after my shots, for some reason she doesn't like rubber so she doesn't have any interest, but she always comes outback with me and sits next to me or if I run around she cases me. I wish she did but I couldn't train her to do so, I think she is afraid of the ball because one time I took a shot and it missed, hit my stucco fence and rebounded back and hit her.

My dog does that, but usually drops the ball about 3/4 of the way back. I have accidentaly hit him a couple of times though, but he is usually fine.

thats terrible dude....
and i went out with 1 of my dogs yesterday and he lied down right next to me and watched me shoot. then when i was done he rolled over a few times in the sun and wanted to play, so i gave him a scratch and he took off and ran and got a few balls that i hadnt shot yet and put them in the net.

no i dont hit her with the balls. Theres a big field behind my net so she waits there and tracks them down when i miss. I dont hit her she gets them once they stop.

I agree w/ ehslax, that is cruel.

My dog either runs around looking for animals, watches for people or dogs coming, runs in circles, or steals and hides balls.

My yellow lab does this too. Whenever i miss a shot and i loose the ball like in a bush or something i just go inside, call her out, point her where i think the ball went and in no time at all she drops the ball at my feet. She will even walk through rose bushes. Ow! She is an amazing dog.

Do you care to explain how you trained your dog because mine won't do any sort of fetch. Right now i'm trying to teach him to play frisbee by using the disc as a bowl. Sadly, it probably won't work because he is lazy and obsessed with food. He can, however, count to five. BEAT THAT!

well my dog was obssessed with playing fetch to begin with. She always wanted me to throw her tennis ball. She always chased after missed shots but didnt bring it back. So whenever she chased it down i would just yell for her to come to me. Also she knew i had treats in my pocket so she always came.

theres this field i played at when i was little with woods right behind the goal and every one would miss and not find the ball. a guy who lived next to the field and his dog would always bring the balls back to us and he had over a hundred balls at a time.
