lol...thats happened before...either that or they take a lot of interest in it...like when i string my sticks "why are you string them again...why didnt the other way work...you spend too much time stringing them..."

and its pretty funny because they don't kno the lax jargon...like they always call the mesh, a net...

on that note...our school paper last year was like "have you ever seen energetic people running around with what looks like oversized butterfly nets?"...

I like to respond with "My oversized butterfly net seems to have caught a college scholarship. What did you soccer cleats get? Oh dirt." Our school soccer teams are horrible. I'm only rude to people who insult me.

My mom doesn't get Homestar Runner at all. But my dad loves it. It's kinda weird but funny. But my mom doesn't get my jargon, and I think it's pretty general, but it isn't, I suppose.

When I am stringing I get alot of " Why do you keep redoing your basket?" or when my mom tells people about lacrosse shes like " Yea they go around throwing a ball in their baskets, and they whail on them too!" Atleast my dad has cought on that it is a stick.

Well, you're mother probably thinks the same thing when she's trying to teach you how to sew or cook.

senor_k
09-02-2004, 09:17 PM
I can cook, and sew. It's not as hard as lacrosse, because you just follow the directions. But yeah, my mom and dad have no idea about lacrosse equipment or the game. We practice out in the ghetto (I'm serious. If you're ever in Oakland go check out 98th and E14th. That's where our practice field is.) So people always ask us if we're playing something like cricket, ice hockey, field hockey, polo, rugby, and jai alai. It's funny because it says "Lacrosse" right on our practice jerseys.

09-02-2004, 09:37 PM
Ha, my mom calls it a net too. And she refers to me praticing as "playing with my stick."

This may surprise you but my mom can actually throw and catch a ball pretty well and she understands most lacrosee terms.

09-02-2004, 09:41 PM
My mom and dad both don't get it. I string and restring my sticks all the time and i constantly hear "Why are you doing that again?" or "Don't you have something better to do than to play with your basket?" I don't think any one in my family knows what the difference is between the shaft and the head and they don't really understand why i like lacrosse. My dad has been to every game and he thinks its kinda kool. My mom has only been to two games because she doesn't get it and she doesn't like seeing me get hit or hit other ppl.

liveforlax19
09-02-2004, 09:54 PM
my parents are so lost... i am constantly restringing my sticks and my dad is always saying "thos things take alot of maintenance huh"

I did a custom job on my proton and i thought it looked pretty sweet and i showed it to him and he said what was wrong with the other net u had in there

Okay, heres a good one,

2-3 years ago i was on Team Arizona for the UMass U-15 festival...and of course we fly to mass.
when we were in the airport we were told to wear our team shirts and hats...that plainly say in large writing "Team Arizona Lacrosse"...when we board the plane, one of the flight crew asks us what sport to do you guys play? is that soccer?

...so we explain it to him...it was pretty funny

My parents both love lacrosse. They can't understand what I am saying half of the time and get mad at me for waisting my time restringing my stick, but they love the sport. My mom had 3 brothers who played when they were younger and she understands the rules very well. My dad caught on quickly watching my games.

Yeah our field is in the ghetto too, when we're practicing black people in the playground are always sayin stuff like "Whats y'all crackas playin some kinda honkey basketball or somethin." and sometimes they walk across the field when we're playing and try and start fights. One time one of them got hit by some guy on the other team, and tried steal the kids stick. Only in the ghetto...

I showed my folks a rail-stall to pick pocket to invert rail-stall to invert pick pocket over the rainbow behind the back switch and my dad was like "stop playing ball in the house."
Other than that they are pretty good with the game, though. My ma doesn't understand why I "need" to "waste" my money on new heads or string though...

I got a lot of that crap too.
Her: "Why do you need so many sticks? Don't you only need one?"
Me: "What if one breaks in the middle of a game? I want to still play."
Her: "..."

My brother (27 years old but doesn't understand a damn thing about lacrosse): "Dude why do you need to spend so much damn time messin with your stick?"
Me: "Im stringing it so i can use this stick."
Him: "Do you need to?"
Me: "..."

Me: "Mom i need gloves"
Her: "Don't you already have some?"
Me: "Yeah Tridents but they are crappy to the max."
Her: "You can still use those, can't you?"
Me: "They are out of date, make my hands really sweaty and restrict my hand movement A LOT."
Her: "Deal with it."
Me: "..."

My dad for not liking lacrosse that much knows a fair amount and he's helping me build a business doing what i love most, lacrosse so he knows the major companies, Brine Warrior STX and Harrow. :agree

my dad used to coach the green gaels a junior B team so he knows a lot about the game after every game he always tells me things he thinks l did wrong and my mom htinks shes knows everything but knows nothing so me and my dad just laugh at her but she does enjoy watching me play and she likes going to NLL games

My dad understands the game very well for not playing the game. I think its because he used to play basketball and football and coach basketball, that makes it easier for him to understand. (theres a reason for it i just dont want to explain right now)

Hes usually the one bringing up whether or not I need new equiptment, like I just bought new gloves last year, and at the begining of this past season hes like so do you need new gloves. every year hes like, "hows your helmet or stick, are you sure you dont need a new one?" but he still understands the game very well, its freaky.

My mom, is a little bit slow on the whole game but thats understandable, she still knows enough to understand the basics. it doesnt really bother me.

I'm very lucky with my parents. My mom, who says she likes watching soccer better (Iplayed it for ten years), supports me with lacrosse. She's always making sure my equipment is in good shape, and she hates missing even one game. My dad doesn't know anything about lacrosse, but he enjoys watching it.

Our school, for a fundraiser, put out a Parents Guide To Lacrosse. It was a little book filled with the rules, terms, positions, and questions some parents might have about the game. In the back of the book it had the rosters and schedules for our guys and girls varsity team and a team picture for each. We sold them for like $10 each and they sold pretty good, I though it was a good idea because a lot of players that are freshman are just starting and more new players join every year so their parent's don't really know the game.

Haha, my mom has an artistic sense which I lack, so I used to get her to help me dye and string stuff. But she would complain every step of the way, and I would tell her that this is the only really important art! You want a true lesson in futility, try teaching your parents to play video games, oh man. My roommate last year grew up on a farm, so he never played video games growing up, so naturally he gets his salad tossed anytime he plays me. But he was so good natured, I'd hit like my 10th homerun of the game and be like "how do ya like that one, *****," (cause I'm used to talking sh.it in both video games and lacrosse :P) and he would be like "good homerun, nice one," haha.

Sisters is the one with the saved forever. Anyway, my dad knows a lot about the game, because I've played four years. The first year or two, they had a tough time buying me a Cyber for Christmas. They don't pay for my equipment, I do, but they pay for me to play, which is nice. But my dad thought I should start stringing other people's heads, because he gets it, which is strange but nice. He tells me what to do after games sometimes, even though I know what I did, and his advice could apply to any sport.

my parents both know a decent amount about the game, but my mom dusnt know quite enough to know whats a bad call. at least she's rooting for the right team :dummy my dad is better at it, but both of them know more then my grandparents or someone like that do. anyways i always get the "dont u hav enough sticks" "didnt we just get u a new stick" "whats wrong with the one u have now" wich is always followed by "i dont see anythign wrong with it." i could go on but u get the drift. its really hard to talk them into getting me new equiptment. i.e. i hav an f-15 + ti from mabey 2-3 years ago. i want to upgrade to a harrow d but noooooo i have to first convince my parents that i absolutely neeeeed it and then i hav to wait till xmas or my bday, wich blows cuz then most of the clubs are already over.
