today i was at a tournament and a gait rep was there he told me some stuff about there new products. First off they are coming out with a new goalie head and a new normal head called the quad its made out of four pieces so if one piece brakes you can by a replacement section instead of a totally new head. It also has a very long throat grip its intended for Defense and Goalie. And there other piece of fairly new equipment is the thrust head and shaft , its basically the crank shaft but its a carbon handle yet it looks metallic its also very cheap for a complete shaft it wont be over $100 i think.

do you have pics of this new gear that gaits coming out with cause I wanna see this four piece head cause its sounds rediculious and dumb

Actually it sounds innovative, not dumb. Maybe for once, someone would actually be mature and think about what they think.

I think the 4 piece head will just break more often so they make more cash off of the replacement parts.

Unfortunately that's the response you'll generally get when a company tries a new gimmick. People always complain about gimmicks, but they are an important part of the post that show us what things can work and take off and what should have been shelved from the get-go. Take the much-maligned liquid for example, which feature both the "floating sidewalls" which earned it the most criticism but also the plug-in throat allowing your hand to be closer to the head. Now the liquid went the way of the dodo to the bargain bins fast, but that plug-in throat still survives, revived by Harrow with their Slider and then STX's Kannon. Not everything works as planned (elastomer overmolding, floating sidewalls, gel "fingers" that provide better hold, wings for increased stopping area etc.) but it otherwise shows us that R&D teams are thinking of what can they do apart from just making a copy-cat head that weighs less, is slightly more pinched within the realms of legality (for now), maybe a couple extra stringing holes, and has a different sidewall design.

I also think it's an interesting idea and would like to see if it works in practice and not just theory. I don't have high hopes for it, but considering you break a head and it's out of warranty, you have to get a whole new head, it's an idea with it's heart in the right place.

i was at a tournament today and there was a bunch of new gait stuff including: gloves with no palms, a new 4-piece head made of composite thats called the quad, a torque pro and the thrust. Any one know anything about this equipment or have heard of it?

yo did u see the crankshaft-type thing on the thrust? how was itand i dont think gloves with no palms are legal

Pro lacrosse players, and men league players use gloves without palms.

Doubtful....

You can't beat perfection.

I just bought a Torque, hope I don't have to invest in a Torque Pro as well...

the torque pro was the same except for the topstring is like the new topstring thing on the thrust which makes me angry because i love my torque and it has custom which is sick and didnt need to be changed

No reason for a torque pro, seeing how torques have been selling out on several websites repeatedly. Also I really doubt they would call it a torque pro because the whole pro thing is a warrior idea. Maybe its an updated version, although I don't know what you could update.

The thrust is out, and it is compatable on all shafts, not just the gait bent ones, which it is also compatable on. My boss tried describing it to me yesterday, apparently it has some weird offset that allows you to use it on all sticks. He claims it is going to be the nicest stick out soon.

I really doubt the carbon fiber head made of 4 pieces. It seems impractical, and would be way too stiff, unless they used the pieces to make it flex, but whatever. Wait and see.

Same with the palmless gloves. Yeah, old guys and pros could use them, but that is a limited market. Making palmed gloves that had cutting instructions in them so you didn't ruin the gloves would be much more efficient for a company to do.

LaxMaxVince

I'm interested in seeing this four piece head. My concern is that it will be so vulnerable to breaking that one would have to keep buying replacement parts until, after a while, its not worth it.

Actually those are the box Mutants. They have no palms and 2 different pockets to put your thumb in (one right behind the protective part of the thumb and the other that is disconnected from the protective part so you can have a better grip on your stick). They're really nice.

06-10-2007, 01:54 PM
yeah I'm not sure about how durable the quad will turn out but it looks pretty cool and its also gonna be a goalie head and i'm really interested in it because of the really long throat for a better grip and less swivel

lacrosse19
06-10-2007, 02:02 PM
honestly, the torque is a great head...but if you think about it or if you have one you can agree. over a season they really don't stay that stiff and often they become to narrow at the scoop...especially if you take faceoffs.

i would love for a torque pro to be a lot stiffer but still be the exact same head. then add a string/sidewall/topstring guard like it is rumored...and then reinforce the sidewalls.

yup I saw the thrust the other day... The scoop is so big that it seems like it would have unremovable whip no matter what. Also, the crankshaft looks realllly cheap and doesn't look good. The grip kind of resembles the Brine Comfot Grip if I had to compare it to anything but not really. It is just a grey shaft and then in the middle on one side it says Gait in red if I remember correctly. Overall I think the only thing good is the fact that they came out with a topstring design that will solve the problem for people who play so much that they break topstrings often.
I leave you with one question... Might this work on an STX 10 degree crankshaft?

yeah i was at my local sports shop, and they had the thrust for sale, the shaft is pretty heavy, carbon composite, with a really glossy finish and feel, it's also very heavy, the head is ok with a large offset, and ridges for the top laces to fit into. Overall i didn't like it. P.S. the shaft's offset was completely covered by the head.

unless im mistaken, the rule states that you are not able to alter your equipment by cutting out the palms. gait however, found a loophole by sellikng them palmless from the factory, meaning theyre not altered, making them legal. gait wouldnt make something like this to such a small market.

so I was at lacrosse unlimited yesterday and I was going to pick up the thrust. I've heard about the shaft being cheap and being a box and a field player I'd figure if its weak I'd break it pretty quickly. I thought that the whole difference between the thrust and stx stuff was that you could use the thrust on normal sticks that do not have offset. The guy at the store told me you couldn't and that the new gait shaft aren't coming out until later this year. That, and my misfortune of traveling there when half their inventory was at a tournament mad me very sad.

But they are shipping me new gloves. Was that true about the Thrust?

I bought the thrust at my local store for $90 and it is a nice head so far. The sidewall design resembles the profile, but is extremely thin. It is not a straight head, but you can you use it on a 10* shaft. It is maybe a little less offset than a cyber. The amount of stringing holes is pretty decent, 11 or 12. The throat seems pretty durable, it's kinda long and relativley thick. One thing that i really hate is the topstring. While it is recessed, it is quite hard to get tight. I am currently have a lot of problems with lip now. The pinch resembles a Torque., It has a v scoop, which i love, and I think really helps with gb's. This head is not the stiffest head out, but not too flexy. I am not completely sure about the durabilitty, but its probably not too durable due to the thickness of the walls. I don't have to worry about this consideribg I play in U- 13. And the shaft that comes with it is free, and IMO it's a p.o.s.
Hope this mini review helped, if you have any more questions PM me.

You can use an offset shaft with an offset head, it is ILLEGAL though, but there is an easy way around this rule. First to measure for an illegal offset on a stick the ref must take the stick and place it face down on a flat surface, and the space between the top of the scoop and the table is measured to see how offset the stick is. In order to get around this all you have to do is take a 1/8" to 1/4" thick piece of tape and keep wrapping it around the very end of the butt of your stick. Just keep wrapping it around until the tape lifts the bottom of you stick far enough off the table to make the measurement on the scoop legal. Offset head + offset shaft = INSANE HOLD I'm not saying you should go do this, but if you wanted to thats how you can get around the rule :agree:

i am almost positive there is no new gait helmet. they released the identity last year, maybe he was talking about that...??? or maybe they are making an identity box helmet.. but im pretty sure there is no new helmet coming from gait. he could be talking about the identity "x-pro". i am not sure if that is new or not, i am pretty sure it was out last season

An attack head in goal? Sounds disadvantageous to me! :chair:

I also assume the four-piece deal is to somehow avoid paying royalties to Brine/Warrior for the offset head. How does this thing work? Do you assemble it like a model airplane? This is totally new territory to me... can anyone enlighten me? I notice the Quad's pretty doggone expensive, compared to other Gait heads.

Gait has a TON of new stuff for box on their website, which is pretty exciting news to me, since they're already an industry leader in boxla gear.....
