ive been messing around, stringing mesh and customs. While taking out some mesh to string a custom pocket, i thought it would be cool to string a custom pocket but use mesh for some parts. Since soft mesh catches easiest you could put that by the top to catch easy. Then you could use leathers to amke the pocket so it wouldnt bag in bad weather. I also thought you could combine different mesh types. Have the top be soft mesh and the pocket be hard. Tell me whatcha think.

the way you described has been attempted but failed miserably. i believe someone said it was the worst of both worlds.
try the corner pocket(mesh channel and tradtion outsides).
there is another pocket that i string, i don't know what it's offically called, but it has regular mesh on the out sides. but is cut don the middle, where you string a pita pocket channel

Not sure if this would work anyway, but I would think you would want the lower half to be soft mesh for more hold, and the top to be hard mesh for a quick release. Either way I doubt it would be a good pocket.

i guess you could boil half a piece of soft mesh in sugar to harden it, but thats still a mesh piece, no trad.
