Hey all, so im 18 and im just starting to get into lacrosse ( A little late I know) Anyways becuase im getting into this sport so late iv missed out on any formal instruction from highschool or rec league coaches, most all the info iv gained about lacrosse is from the forum. So I finally got my gear and iv been messing around trying to practice catching, throwing and craddling, teaching myself.

My question is if theres any quick pointers of how to succesfully catch and craddle a ball consisently, I know theres a variety of ways to craddle a ball depending on where you are and what your attempting to do, but I dont know which basic craddling forms to focus on for general beginner use. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

when you are first learning, cradle with your top hand, and put the head of ur stick next to your head. this is reffered to as the third ear or your box

have your stick in your hand at all times even when just sitting around the house and make sure to be able to practice with both hands trust me you'll have cradling down in no time just keep messing around

theres also a fundamentals and dodging sticky at the top of this forum that you can read for more info

bringing your stick everywhere you go helps alot. when i first started playing, my friends thought id never catch up to them. i was addicted and obssesed with lacrosse so i brought my stick everywhere i went. when i was in my bed, id would lay down and toss the ball up in the air and catch it. this could go for hours without end. my house has some narrow halls, and paintings are hung up everywhere, so id use that to help switching hands and dodging. after 2 months, i was already better than my friends that have played a season and 1/2. it really helps.

Any age is a good age to start. Your age specifically is good for starting, depending on where you live, you won't be that far behind some of the kids you will be playing against. Just practice a lot and you'll be as good as the rest.
