Im in 7th grade and this past season was my first middle school lacrosse season. I knew i was pretty thin, but when i was playing against 8th graders also, it was easier to see.
I am about 5'2" tall and i only weigh around 85-88 pounds... any advice on how to get bigger... both muscles and body

5'2 isnt a horrible height.
I have a kid on my team 5'2 around 100lbs.

make sure that every pound you gain is not JUST fat but useable weight.
i know this kid who wanted to get bigger and play, he got big, really big. he didnt play because he couldnt keep up with the running anymore.
im not saying that fat hurts you, i mean it does give you weight, but make sure that you dont gain JUST fat, and no muscle.

yea same thing with a kid that was trying out this year... just got fat and couldn't keep up...
I don't know about you guys, but i play goalie, and i gotta say, i would rather have fast, skinny defensemen then big, slow ones. but thats just me. I don't see the point in being huge. if your fast, then they can never get infront of you to shoot on you. but you don't want to be too skinny, just don't wanna be too big either.

work on speed. I'm really tall and lanky (6'3, 150) and have the same problem gaining weight, but I'm fast, and that really works to my advantage.

DONT start working out yet you are too young.. it will mess with your growth. But you can do exercises without lifting to gain weight. Situps, pushups, squats, up downs etc. Also Drink protien shakes, eat chicken, bread, pasta... Alot of carbs to pump food into you and keep you energized. But as its been stated dont eat like candy and that stuff 24 7

EAT HEALTHY.
You may eat more than every fat kid ever.
But you can also burn off all that fat.
Eat protein.
Workout(lifting) every other day.
Run hills too....it builds your butt muscle....you need a big @ss to be fast.

i used to be 5'7 about 120, i was half a foot taller then my sister and we weighed the same, but i started working out and now im 5'7.5 137 and almost all muscle, but i still run about a 5sec 40 yard. but you shouldn't try to sacrifce speed for strength. so i will tell you this.
RUNNING
run up-hills-builds leg muscle
sprint down hills (do this on grass just incase you fall forwards)- builds speed
UPPER BODY
wide arm push ups(past shourld width)-all upper body
revers push ups-triceps
millitary push ups(hand in a diamond shape-all upper body
millitary pull ups(if you can find a bar, palms going away)-arms
CORE
sit ups- ab strength
distance running-burns fat(six pack=goood)/increases stamina
bicycles-obliques(sides of abs)
cruches-abs
WARNING-YOU ARE TO YOUNG TO START LIFTING, SO DON'T START.
I gave you all these execises so you can vary your work out, you don't need to do all these every time you work out, thats just insanity.
but good juck making weight

also it depends on how your body has devloped. if your body develops faster then you will be able to start lifting earlier then others, some people might have to wait longer to start lifting. no 2 people are alike

there have been no studies that show that lifting stunts your growth as long as you're not dead lifting when you like 12 and are using proper form

your kinda young to start working out. YES IT DOES EFFECT YOUR GROWTH. one defensemen on my team is extremely strong, fast, and well build, but hes only 5'5'' and 15 years old. he worked out since 6th grade and now hes just a short peice of crap. although hes strong, people that are taller then him just blow him over.
consult a doctor before working out. I mean, if you just work out like 3 times a week for like a half hour, it shouldn't hurt you to much, but if you go to the extreme, then like i said, consult a doctor.

You need to cite your sources as I said above as I said in my earlier post. If you read that link I posted you may get a better understanding of lifting at a young age. Its fine to disagree, but in the training forum you need sources to back up any "fact" you wish to share or disprove.

I wouldnt worry too much about your weight yet, your in 7th grade, seriously atleast give yourself a few more years before you start worrying about that sort of thing. When I was in 7th grade I was probbly about the same weight at you and it didnt bother me, you just start to naturally gain some weight as you mature, Im still skinny no doubt, 5'10 140lbs. but its mostly all muscle, I work out almost every day and I drink 2 protein shakes a day with high carb / protein meals, it's still hard for me to gain weight thought, some peoples bodies just metabolize everything you throw at it, its not a bad thing as long as your doing everything you can to gain clean weight through eating right, protein shakes etc

dont worry about your height just yet. i know a senior in my school that was 5'0 when he was a freshman and now is 6'2 as a senior. just eat a lot of meat and work out if you want to get big fast. just dont do workouts that stunt your growth succh as squation & deadlifts

ur in 7th grade so ur metabolism is off the charts. The reason you dont gain weight is because your still young wait till 9th grade and you'll start gaining weight like no other. I know this because when i was in 7th grade i weighed around 75 lbs and now im entering junior year and im close to 185.

I used to be the fat kid before 7th grade, and then I lost about 40lbs, and I've gained it all back now that I'm entering 9th grade. I really didn't do anything different though. Just give it some time and you will see the weight gain.

Weight and size isn't all that its cracked up to be in lacrosse, that doesn't mean you shouldn't work to get stronger and better, but if you are genetically skinny, then use it to your advantage. I know a player who graduated last year who is not even 5' 8" 140 pounds and was so fast and good on ground balls, that he is considered the best player ever to come out of our school. He is skinny like you wouldn't believe. At the level you are at, you don't need to bulk up, that should be your emphasis in high school. Wait until 9th grade when its much safer to weight lift and use supplements. You're probably going to be a late bloomer if you're that short. I know people who were shorter than me when I was in your grade and now they stand next to me and tower over me.

im 5'6 and 130 and im the small kid
but it doesnt matter, people underestimate my speed
and then i run it down them
as small as i am i have learned how to hit properly and play strong defence and as a small player i can still strip the ball from players far larger then i am

Allight. My freshman year of high school, I was 5'10", 125. You could count my ribs through my Cold Gear.
After my freshman year, my parents paid a guy that played at Greensboro College to work out with me 2-3 times a week over the summer for an hour to an hour and a half. It was a lot of lifting, not built around increasing my max but getting stronger and gaining weight. I lifted HARD for an hour to 1.5 hours, doing a variety of exercises, but sticking mainly to the core of bench, clean, and squat.
I also ate 3 meals a day, and I would eat a four pack of Tyson chicken legs after every session. I started drinking a fair amount of whole milk, and the occasional protein shake.
I broke 150 after 3 weeks or a month, IIRC.
Its not all about lifting, it has to do with meal changes and alterations.
You're probably a little young to be lifting hard, but eat 4 meals a day (one right before you go to bed). Do a lot of push ups, crunches, and pull ups. If anything, you'll get ripped for the hoes. Good luck

I didn't feel like creating a new thread and my topic relates to this...
Alright, I'm not skinny at 160 lbs. at 6'1". But I've been told I need to put on weight. I eat at least twice the recommended serving size for everything I eat. I lift 3-4 times a week depending if I have practice for my travel team or a tournament that week. I know my lifting can't be that bad, my bench max was 215 about 4 weeks ago. In addition to lifting, I get shot on and do an individual goalie workout for footspeed and quickness. I've been around the 157-160 size range for about a year and a half now and I feel like I need to get bigger to compete at a higher level.
Heres a sample of what I did today:
-Woke up at 7:30 AM, ate 4 eggs over-easy and two whole english muffins
-went to my school's weight room to lift for about an hour and fifteen minutes (our football's bigger+faster program or something)
-got home, drank a protein shake with two scoops of powder and ate two chicken sandwiches
-went to our practice field with an attackman to get shot on for an hour and a half
-got home and drank a couple of glasses of chocolate milk with chicken salad
-went back to our practice field and did my footwork drills for an hour and did some wall ball for an hour
-went home and took a shower, ate some kind of fish sandwiches my Mom will make me
-went and played 18 holes (golf)
-chilled around my house for awhile and took a nap
-ate a lot of pasta with alfredo sauce (i'm guessing almost 1/2 a lb.) with a protein shake
somewhere in there i had time to eat two hamburgers! (kinda lost track of time today)
Can anyone help me as to why I'm not gaining any weight? Maybe my caloric expenditure is greater than my caloric intake?
Thanks in advance, OHSgoalie10

the best goalie ive ever seen was a 5' 4'' skinny kid. Skinny goalies have what the fat goalies envy - speed. Fat goalies have what the skinny goalies envy - snack packs.
but if you really want to put on weight, put on muscle. If you dont know how to get started talk to someone you know who does it or look for help online. MY school has a plyometric program over the summer thats mainly for football but a good mix of every sport does it.

To answer swrlax55's question: First go talk to your doctor about how your body has developed over the years, this is a key factor because well your doctor knows almost everything about you and this will help aid getting you in the right direction of getting yourself bigger and in better shape. Second while seeing your doctor ask him for a good physical trainer and a good nutritionist that will be a huge help since its their specialty. Talk to those two people and make sure to give them all the info about your body (charts from your normal doctor) they need and have them give you a workout plan containing your lifting plan, running, cardio building and eating/diet. Also have your physical trainer show you the proper mechanics of lifting.
Now for my personal opinion, you shouldn't hit the weights to hard, you are young, yes there is no evidence that shows that lifting stunts your growth, but since you probably don't know proper mechanics I wouldn't want you to get hurt and run a risk of permanently hurting yourself. And you never know they haven't proven that it doesn't stunt growth either so better be safe then sorry in the future. Also for your age lifting isn't that big of a deal or factor for your level of play, wait till high school to start hitting the weights hardcore and building up muscles, it doesn't play a huge factor until you get to that level of any sport. What you should do is focus on running, building up your legs and building up your cardio (both quick short running and long distance running). Also work on your lacrosse skills, thats a important part as well. Lastly as said get a good diet from your nutritionist, make sure to eat lots and lots of protien, a good amount of healthy carbohydrates and of course eat your veggies. One easy way to get lots of protein is to eat lots of peanut butter and jelly sandwich's.
Just do all that, listen to the advice already given to you in your thread and the advice to come in your thread and listen to Cburylax, he knows a ton about this stuff.
Good luck

Look I played on swrlax55's team, he's one of my good friends. I'm just wondering does lifting really stunt your growth. I'm 5'8'' 140lbs, I know i'm tall for a 13-old-old but i want to be a little taller than 5'8'' when I grow up.
Also does anybody have any advise on how to improve footwork, cause i'm fats but my footwork really sucks.
