3 times stronger than titanium and 5.6 oz for only $76.50? I'm definitely suspicious. There has to be a drawback. That "amorphous alloy" seems a little fishy.

I would like to try one and I might buy one if I hear good things about it. I wish it came in grey or chrome.

When will you guys learn?!?! Do a forum search on reviews of Lax Digest.

Lax Digest probably carries the smallest inventory of any lax gear dealer on the internet. Just b/c something is listed on their site doesn't mean they have it in stock. When you place your order, they rarely tell you if it is or isn't. They take your money and then worry about filling your order later. If an item is in stock, then great, you'll probably get it in timely fashion. If not, they'll jerk your chain while they special order, back order, or drop ship.

Someone on TLF posted that he recently ordered Fresh Mesh from Lax Digest (they were the first to list it on their on their website of course), and was just informed by them that he will have to wait at least another month before he gets it.

how is it that sum people are suspecious? if it breaks in 12 months u hav a warentee, its already been tested to work in other fields. just cuz its super cheep and said to b stronger and lighter then titanium dusnt mean its bad quality. i think that ddebeer/gait make some of the highest quality items on the market. jsut go on a little faith.

According to liquidmetals website it is as cheap as plastic to manufacture. Sure it is thier companys website but it should be somewhat true. I do have a hard time believein it too though just becasue it is only 75$ and im used to the best quality shafts usually costing a lot of money. (although 75 isnt too cheap).
This is Debeer and i have said it before i have a lot of faith in their company and respect how they handle things. I think for the price that they sell most of there stuff is a steal, look at the icon or the db. I really wouldnt be suprised if this may be as good as i thought in the beggining.

So its seriously 3x stronger than TI? :wow:

LaxGoalieLZ
09-12-2004, 12:25 AM
The shaft is probably more like two times stronger, chances are that they overexagerated a little bit and rounded up, but yes it is 2-3 times stronger than Titanium (from the numbers, which arent always 100%)

NICE bblax. If they have liquid metal or something like that, you should buy like a square foot or something and try to bang it up. And take pics so we can see how good it is

I searched on google for anomorphous metal and I found this: http://www.leaderboard.com/GLOSSARY_AMORPHOUSALLOY
it might be about golf but its the same idea, then i clicked on the liquid metal link to get here: http://www.leaderboard.com/glossary_liquidmetal

So, I guess there's a chance the shaft might not be a flop

BTlaxripper
09-14-2004, 07:52 PM
so in golf they have to dampen it so it won't make you hit farther. But in lacrosse they don't have to will they? So I stand by my opinion that this stuff is gonna be BIG

LaxGoalieLZ

Also remember though that this isnt super light it is just incredibly strong and cheap. So if people want a lighter shaft they will go with a shaft made of c555 or a harrow. It weighs 5.6 ounces .6 more than a kpro. It is only 70 something dollars though. The reason it costs so little is because the way they make it. Like plastic they use a perminant casting mold so it costs dramatically less to manufacture.

They have liquidmetal for tennis and probably other sports. Its not any sort of liquid at all. For tennis,It it supposed to get stiff or flexy depending on how hard you swing. The changes are at a "molecular level" as the tags state. The shaft probably uses the same metal. Do a search for liquidmetal tennis racquets

how can you tell if its coated from a picture? you cant. may not even be able to tell in person. And the coating of LM will increase the strength, like ti does. ti shafts are not 100% titanium. LM is not 100% LM. Ti shafts are still strong. i have a feeling this will be strong. I stick by what i said before; It's going to be a great shaft. And i expect to see a lot of them because they are stronger and cheeper.

liquidmetals look like they will be good put they cant be 4x as strong like they claim. i would still buy one though. on laxdigest is says 84.50 after i log in also. i dont know if thats right since you are all saying 76 wich i also heard. but , well, anyways....

See the areas on that shaft were it is red? That red isn't painted on there; it's actually the other way around. The red is the areas of the shaft that are not coated with LiquidMetal. It's a red dB803 showing (same red as the dB803 tribal grip that is only a shaft away).

Now for my little lesson on LiquidMetal:

LiquidMetal doesn't absorb impact energy like most objects. Think of a throwing a ball against a brick wall...the ball bounces off the wall and the brick remains the same. Now throw the same ball at Styrofoam wall...the ball doesn't bounce back and the Styrofoam is dented if not ripped. With the brick wall the brick did not absorb much of the impact therefore the impact was transferred back to the ball causing it to bounce back. With the Styrofoam wall, the Styrofoam absorbed must of the impact causing it to be dented (or ripped) and since the Styrofoam too the impact there wasn't much kinetic energy to transfer back to the ball, hence why it didn't bounce. Now equate that to a shaft. A shaft with LiquidMetal coating would not absorb as much energy (like a brick wall) from being checked by or checking another shaft, where as a standard shaft would absorb some of the impact (like the Styrofoam wall) of being checked or checking another shaft. Obviously the brink and Styrofoam example is using two extremes (and no shaft on the market would absorb impact as much as Styrofoam would), but it simplifies the concept.

Got it? Good...now here is where the problem lies. Just because something is less likely to absorb kinetic energy, does not mean it is "stronger"...well at least not in the terms that most people think of. "Stronger" is a subjective word. Are they talking tinsel strength, PSI, kinetic, thermodynamic, or malleable strength? A titanium beam will still support more than a similar beam made from pure LiquidMetal, because the asset of LiquidMetal is not it's structural strength, but rather it's kinetic dampening characteristic.

I actually think LiquidMetal is a good idea to try in lacrosse, and it might do very well, however I think people completely misunderstand the statement that the shaft is 2-3 times stronger than titanium (but that's good marketing for you).

A freind of mine just got back from the US lax convention he had an order book (can't remember from where), but it listed the liquid metal at 300K psi the nearest shaft was a titan pro (ti) at 190K pretty big difference. I use an 803 and have put it through alot of punishment and it doesnt have one dent in it. So i really want to try out this new liquid thing.

it is a golf hat.....I tested the driver...it had a weird feel but hit a tonne...their pitch was the face held the ti effect and strength longer than ti faced drivers,,,,

whatever...I will try one out if I get it cheap,a dn even try it in box lax...they should liquidmetal a box db803...now that would be a shaft...oh and use the old school proflex shape
