I've started working out over the summer with some friends and have gotten pretty serious about it. So far we've been going Monday, Wednesday, Friday and I've been doing full body workouts. I'm usually only sore the day after I workout but then the next day I'm fine and ready to go to the gym. So my question is am I overtraining? What I don't understand is are your muscles done rebuilding the muscle fiber when you are no longer sore or does it take longer? Oh and I almost always go to failure. If you want I can post what my routine looks like. I think it's pretty good. Thanks

Ya I would do split body workouts, but I don't want to if I can lift this much and not overtrain.
EDIT: Oh and I'll post my routine so you guys can see what I'm doing.
1) Warm up:
-5 minute jog on treadmill
-Stretch
2) Compound Lifts
-Bench Press 5,4,3,2,1
-Squat 5,4,3,2,1
-Deadlift 5,4,3,2,1
3) Olympic Lifts
-Snatch or Clean (alternate days)
1 x 45 (bar) x 5
1 x 75 x 3
1 x 85 x 3
2 x 95 x 3
4) Isolation Lifts
-Barbell Curls*
-Calve Raises 3 x 10
-Military Press 3 x 5
-Barbell Wrist Curls*
(I know these two aren't iso but I want to do them at the end so my chest and triceps aren't really tired from benching still)
-Close Grip Bench Press *
-Wide Grip Bench Press*
*8 reps, rest 30 seconds, increase weight 10% and rep until failure
5,4,3,2,1 - Rest 2 minutes in between sets, increase the weight 5-10% each set, until you get to 1 rep max.
I'm thinking about taking out squats or deadlifts, since they both do basically the same thing. Probably deadlifts since I like them more and my squat form isn't the best.

or if you want a good full body workout, wear sweatpants and a sweatshirt and go swim laps...probably the best thing you can do without a real gym membership....

Squats and deadlifts are two different excerises. squats mainly work the quads with maybe a little hamstring, while deadlifts work ur hamstring and are the muscles that give you that explosiveness so i wouldnt consider dropping either of them. Also military press isnt a iso its a compound lift it mainly works you delts but also you triceps, lower back, core, and some traps. forearm curls dont really help much if you already doing heavy deadlifts and cleans.

Ok thanks for the advice that really helps, I didn't know that about deadlifts. Also I knew the military press used triceps a little but I didn't know it used all those other. I'll try a different exercise for my shoulders. And Royaloaklax get out of my thread that has nothing to do with anything.

Don't just give up, just because you're 5'3" in 8th grade means nothing, I know people who were that short when I was in 7th, 8th grade and a year later they were taller than me. Just play wall ball consistently, run some sprints, practice all your fundamentals. Who cares what stick you have, an all-american in my section, won all-american with a stick that costs like $20. Actually both of the all-americans in my section did.

Do not always go to failure taxes CNS too much. Gains will stop and you will plateau.

Yeah, full body workouts are too much. Trying doing bench/reverse bench/military press one day, then squat/front squat, hang clean, etc., while on one of the day replace one of the exercises with some ab work, incline, leg press, deadlift, etc.

Full body workouts are not too much. Where are you getting that bigguh? Ask any major strength coach (Poliquin, Cosgrove, Waterbury, Tate, Berardi) and they all promote full body workouts. Traditional split type workouts were generally created by people using gear (steroids) and are a much higher volume than full body. To fully reap the benefits of a split type workout you'd need to be on gear just to recover.
