I saw it last night and i thought it was good. I get scared pretty easily and as a horror movie it did its job of scaring the poo out of me. There were lots of surprise moments where I jumped back and made me go "Oh shiite!" Some scenes were funny and had us laughing, although i dont think it was supposed to be funny. But the plot was extremely confusing. My friends and I did not understand the movie at all.
***Spoiler Kinda***
So hes hallucinating right? At what point it seems like it was all dream. But its not. It all is really happening, except some of the stuff he is seeing. Or was he? How the hell did his daughter come alive? Because the voice recorder recorded the daughter's voice...It was all too confusing but def scared the crap out of me sometimes.

Ok so this would be a huge spoiler don't read it if you don't want to know whats gonna happen. (My computer won't let me write in white?)
Ok so, the room doesn't have a ghost or a poltergeist or anything thing of that nature in it. It is just infested by evil. Whenever somone enters it takes hold of them and whatnot. Everything happening to him is real. But if a different person entered the room, differnet things would happen to them than Mr. Enslin. So after he set the room on fire, the firefighters came in and didn't see anything that had happened to him because to them it didnt happen...get it?
Other observations: Remeber the thing the manager told Mr. Enslin about the guy drowning in his soup? Well i think what happened to him was that he actually drowned from the water in the painting but when the hotel staff came to find him it appeared that he had died in his soup.
Do you also remember the part where the lady on the phone offers "express check-out" and you see a noose? Then about 30 seconds later he looks in the mirror and sees himself hanging from the sheets? That's What it would look like if someone came in and found him after he had hung himself (which didnt happen obviously).
So the summary essentially is, is that the room is evil and the evil makes the occupant go insane and kill him/herself. If an outsideer walks in it would seem like the person committed suicide. (which happened technically but you get my point right?)
Finally sorry for this long post and if it doesn't make any sense
I could try to clear some tihngs up for you.

so its about this guy, whos an author. He doesnt write just any ol' books, he visits haunted hotels, sleeps there for a day, and writes about his experiences. however this guy doesnt believe in ghosts, or anything of that matter. So he goes to this hotel, with the scary room, 1408. And the manager tells him the history of that room, telling him everybody dies in less than in hour after entering that room. However the author doesnt believe him and he enters...
Thats where the story begins

**SPOILER**
He tells the lady on the phone he'll stay but then she tells him his wife is on her way there. He gets pissed and takes the alcohol the manager gave him and stuffs his bandanna in the neck and makes a molotive(sp?) cocktail and sets the room on fire. Then the numbers "1408" melt off the entrance door symbolizing he "defeated" the evil and firefighters come up and save him from the room and he ends up at the REAL hospital this time and ends up living with his wife again. BUT, he finds his little tape recorder wiht the recording of him when he's talking to his [dead] daughter towards the end meaning that what he saw actaully happened to him.

did anyone get when the manager was like "Good job Mr. Enslin" at the end? that is the only part that didnt make sense for me and i thought that compared to alot of movies out there it wasnt all that scary. pretty predictable i think

He meant "good job you survived an hour and 'defeated' the evil."
There were two parts that scared me, one was when he was looking across the street at his "mirror image" and he turned around nd saw that guy swinging taht hammer thing..
The second was when he was in the air vent and that dead zombie looking thing grabbed him.
They mostly scared me cause they popped out at you.
