ding dong, over the head checks and wraps
throw a few dingdongs to get him, then he;ll think he has you figured out so fake a ding-dong and throw a chop check over his head.
and throw some wrap checks to get behind him, but becareful cause it could sacriice body position

If you want to throw some hail-mary checks, either of the checks tiplax described (not trying to dog you tip), ding dong, woodchop, or even the ice-pick would be some things to try. Otherwise, play it safe and use your body. Just try not to let him get too close to prevent you from doing so. If he's right up on you, like rolling position, you should always be able to lean in and shove him out.

slap his arms elbows, send one handed pokes along side of him. timing is key. only throw those crazy checks if you have to speed to back them up.

stay with body positioning and just frustrate him...while you may not get the homerun check, by keeping him from advancing, he'll get frustrated and pass the ball off...THIS is where you get that well timed poke/lift and get the pass to go wide...

as you play more, you'll learn that even guys with good stick protection have some tells...not many are perfect...youll learn which checks to throw when...but when facing someone who does have excellent protection, you can always revert to the good positioning and keeping them out

Ice pick is perfect for d-poles, and not so much ice picking, but realizing that you can use both ends of your pole to check effectively.

what i like to do is push him out with the but of my stick and then u have enough room to poke him back away from ur goal
