I was wondering what the advantages/disadvantages of each shot types are. Such as which one is the most accurate, which is the most powerful and when to use each. The shots that i am thinking about are overhand, underhand, behind the back and sidearm. I am fairly new here so is its in the wrong section let me know please. thanks

overhand and sidearm and underhand are just used to confuse the goalie by changing angles and locations of where the ball comes out of your stick. behind the back is used to gain an angle if you around the 5 and 5 and your stick is in your outside hand and overhand shots are typically used on the run. and accuracy and power just comes from practice and varies from person to person. i find my sidearm has the most power but my overhand is more accurate. and as a tip CHANGE LEVELS. high to low and low to high. except a high to high on the run off stick side always looks amazing

Overhand is the most accurate and powerful (look at any professional baseball pitcher or quarterback -- there's a reason none of them would be caught dead throwing sidearm), but sidearm and underhand are useful if you change levels.

Theres actually a nice handful of pitchers who throw sidearm in the mlb, and a decent amount at the high school level. Whatever floats your boat i suppose.

LaxHandle, he's right there are a lot of MLB pitchers who throw sidearm and even borderline underhand. But you are also correct that most pitchers throw overhand.

Usually when a pitcher throws a "slider" they would pitch sidearm. When I played baseball a good percentage of my pitches were sidearm.

Show me, because I've NEVER seen it.

Randy Johnson is probablly the most well known sidearm pitcher.

While it is rare, there are some almost-underhand ("submarine") pitchers as well.

wowww. that guy looks like he just got **** on. he is cross-eyed. hahaha. But on with the topic. It seems i have the most power shotting sidearm, but hardly ever use that in a game unless i have time and room. Underhand, yes is very effective IF you change levels, but it can take alot of practicing to get a consistent riser on your underhand shot. Most of the time, no matter what you should shoot overhand, it is more consistent that any other shot, usually have better accuracy, and constant power shooting that way even when you are under pressure. And behind the back shots can be very useful if you are at or very near GLE( Goal Line Extended), alot of times catching the goalie off guard is the main reason for behind the back shots. Also watch pros and college players, most of the shots you see coming from them are overhand shots, proof this is overall the best shot.

Pitchers throw sidearm and underarm all the time. And for QBs? Vince Young Anyone?

But still, there's a reason the majority throw overhand.

That's true. We're just saying that there are SOME sidearm / underhand throwers, so really, if you worked at it, your underhand/sidearm shooting in lacrosse could become just as strong if not stronger than your overhand.

there was an underhanded QB, a while ago, i dont know his name, but he wasnt like amazing or anything, i think 2nd string or 3rd, but still, if youre in the NFL no matter what string you are, you are still amazing at football.
